Burglars broke into Paul's Restaurant and Bob's Drive-In Grocery early Monday. Items stolen included dishes, cigarettes, an adding machine, money from the juke box, a portable TV, and cash. The crime was discovered as the restaurants opened. the Wilson County Sheriff's Department is investigating both sites.
Floresville High School honors Pat Baker and Jean Evelyn Ray for top academic and leadership roles. Baker graduates with 21.5 credits, serves as editor of Tiger Tattler and business manager of Tiger Claw, active in UIL Journalism and Beta Club. Ray graduates with 22 credits, Beta Club and Senior Class leadership, and UIL play involvement. Other top-scorers include Connie Calvert and others scoring 290 or above.
Graduation exercises will be held this Friday night at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. Rev Anthony Costanting and Pastor Shara Teltschik will preside. Salutatorian Jean Evelyn Ray will lead the class song God Bless America. Robert J Stevens principal will present graduates and diplomas with Mrs Horace Lowman as Board of Trustees president. Mrs. Marilyn Zolkoski will receive her Master of Arts in Education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio Texas on May 27 1968. The exercises will be held at the Convention Center in that city.
Cynthia Ann Zolkoski daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Zolkoski of Poth will graduate May 24 1968 from Poth High School. The family notes Mrs Zolkosi has achieved her teaching goal while Cynthia begins advancement to higher education. Wishing both a successful future.
In Goliad on April 25 Path Elementary and Jr High earned honors in Oral Reading Number Sense Picture Memory Ready Writing Story Telling and Spelling across 5th to 8th grades. Notable names include James Brandesky Gary Uhlig Nancy Hosek Theresa Dugi Theresa Sekula and Joe Brandesky among others.
The Floresville Jaycees announce The End of School Sock Hop as their first 1968 project. Wonders from Path will supply music, Old Gym hosts the event, and June 7 is set as Friday night. Additional plans include a Western dance, a Special Awards Program, and assistance to the San Antonio AAU track program.
The City of Floresville will be closed on Thursday May 30 for Memorial Day observance. Floresville Chamber of Commerce designated the holiday and the Floresville Jaycees of 1968 aim for all members to attend at least one Jaycee convention, noting past conventions have proven beneficial.
A peanut growers meeting is set for Monday night May 27 at 8 30 p m in the District Court room of the Courthouse in Florest ville Texas The aim is to discuss forming a Wilson County Growers Association and coordinating with adjoining counties to secure better prices for producers Six area counties supply about 40 percent of Texas peanuts A speaker from Frio County Peanut Growers Association will outline benefits and activities All Wilson County peanut growers are invited and urged to spread word to neighbors
The 1968 Appeal for fir support of the Local Salvation by Service Unit and State wide Services began with a kickoff at Wrights Cafe on Tuesday May 14. Campaign Chairman Wiley Seale announced captains and terms guiding the effort.
Memorial Hospital hosts a commemorative service on Thursday May 30 1968 at the entrance. The program includes invocation at 11 40 am special message at 11 42 am playing of taps at 11 58 am raising of flag by Boy Scouts at 12 00 noon and benediction at 12 02 pm. A large crowd is hoped with Boy and Girl Scouts present to honor those who gave their lives and to remember friends relatives and loved ones who have passed. People of all faiths in Wilson County and surrounding area are invited to attend. Ministers of different faiths will conduct the service.
Fay Hill 53 of 103 Nelson San Antonio faced shoplifting charges in J P Court Precinct No 1 Floresville after a incident at I D Flores Drug Store. A clerk noticed a pocket book missing, Hill returned the item, left before officers arrived, paid a fine later, and was released. Deputy Sheriff Raymond Wright relayed the license plate to the Highway Patrol who recovered the suspects. The sheriff warns merchants to report incidents promptly. Jimmy Cox of Arlington won first in Region 5 IEEE student paper contest at UT Arlington with paper on power invariant transformation. Jerry Cox, another UT Arlington electrical engineering student, attends the same school.
Fall City selects Shirley Winkler for future teaching path at Southwest Texas State College majoring in elementary education. Winkler, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Winkler, served four years in Future Homemakers of America as secretary in her senior year and was named the Future Farmers of America member. Migs Winkler undecided about plans. program includes processional Pomp and Circumstance and invocation by Rev Kenneth Joems at St John Lutheran Church with inputs from Dr Buford Williams and Superintendent Jerome Roge.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Mobile X-Ray Unit with Alamo Area TB Association. In Floresville the unit will be at the Courthouse from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on June 1. The drive supports Governor Connallys tuberculosis eradication plan as it tours 20 counties in May and June. Frank Munoz leads the x ray team, with local volunteers assisting. Adults pay 50 cents and teens 14 to 18 pay 25 cents. no one is denied an x ray for lack of funds.
