A baccalaureate service is scheduled for Sunday evening May 25 1958 at 8 00 o clock in the High School gymnasium. The event invites the community and graduating seniors to participate in the traditional ceremony.
The program lists valedictorian and salutatorian with processional and recessional music. Speakers include Mrs. W. A. Smith and Rev. Don Boring. Performances feature a Baptist choir, a sermon and benediction, and church choirs from Floresville churches.

Agriculture editor R G Jordan reports San Antonio Express that the Stockdale watermelon crop shows an exceptionally favorable outlook, praised for quality and yield with favorable growing conditions and strong regional demand.
Red Cross first aid course to start June 2 at Poth High School. Sessions run Monday Wednesday and Friday during first week and Monday Wednesday of the second week from 7 30 to 9 30 p.m.
On Wednesday June 4 at 230 pm the Fairview Home Demonstration Club hosts a program at Fairview School. County Attorney D Richard Voges will discuss Texas Property Laws Concerning Women. Everyone is invited including men. refreshments afterward.
G L Akin of Stockdale announced to the Chronicle Journal his candidacy for County Commissioner of Precinct 4. He says he is qualified to serve all citizens fairly and would devote full attention if elected, asking voters to consider his qualifications.
Floresville Troop 114 of the Boy Scouts of America will hold a Court of Honor at the American Legion Hall on Friday evening, June 6 at 7 30 P M. All parents, Scouters and the general public are invited to attend and support the scouting program.
The Fairview Cemetery Association will hold its semi annual meeting Friday May 30 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Methodist Church. Because of a rainout in November the Methodists will lead services this time. Rev W P Carmichael of San Antonio will deliver the Memorial Day message. Lunch planned at noon. A songfest starts at 1 30 and regular business at 2:00 p.m.
Fort Worth Press conservation awards program in Edna on May 15 honored Pat Higgins of Sutherland Springs as Area III Outstanding Farmer. About 300 attendees included local leaders. a district tour and Edna High School chicken banquet followed. Others from Wilson County included Edgar Webb and E L Johnson. Fritz Graeber and Bill Shomette also attended.
Wilson County weather roundup notes total rainfall since January 1 1958 reaches 20.33 inches with scattered showers last Sunday Floresville reports .68 inch and .80 inch path. Kosciusko a light sprinkle. several localities recorded between a fraction and 2 inches. Floresville saw rain May 14 and 15 totaling 1.43 inches per Julius Ewing’s gauge. most areas measured three quarters to 1.5 inches for the week. The Texas Almanac and government data project Wilson county annual rainfall around 26.95 inches in normal years.
The Wilson County Democratic Executive Committee met May 12, 1958 at the Courthouse in Fioresville to apportion primary costs among candidates. Named were John Young for Congress 14th District at $50, L. L. Holstein and Jerry Butler for Senate districts each $10, John F. May for District Judge $125, and Richard L. Dobie Jr. plus J. Taylor Brite for District Attorney and District Clerk A. M. Ezzell, with additional wartime allocations noted.
Wilson County Farm Bureau directors met May 15 at 8:00 P.M. Nine directors and fieldman Wayne Little attended. Next meeting scheduled for June 11 to select Farm Bureau Queen. Discussion covered Farm-to-Market road program and statewide funding debates. References noted to Texas Farm Bureau warning of dangers and potential legislative pressure to alter rural roads funding.
Wilson County Livestock Show scheduled for Stockdale on January 19 1959 after a May 19 board meeting in Floresville. District 59 B baseball bi district game report from Poth 9 Skidmore 8 with details of late scoring. Poth and Floresville to sponsor show with 400 each toward prize money. La Vernia invited to participate in county wide event.
State Senator R A Weinert of Seguin campaigned in Floresville last Saturday on behalf of his bid to represent Texas Senate District 19. He is noted as the dean of the Texas Senate with the longest tenure among current members.
Jack Kindred, a field representative of the Veterans' Land Board of Austin, has been transferred to Wilson County this week. He does not know how long he will be there but expects it will be some time.
Bonie Skrobarczyk of Poth announces candidacy for County Commissioner of Precinct No 2 in the July 26 primary. He cites prior service from 1941 to 1944 and pledges to govern in a businesslike, fair manner for Kosciusko and Poth communities. He urges voters to consider his candidacy before the election.
