Thirty children completed grammar school as twenty seven graduates received diplomas on Monday. The occasion marked the close of the school year with a Friday afternoon program featuring standard exercises and remarks by staff and guests.
Floresville closed the 1929-1930 term with grammar and high school ceremonies. The baccalaureate service featured Dr Phillip Gene Fletcher's sermon, special music, and prayer by local clergy. Commencement followed with silver gowns and a PTA luncheon honoring the 1930 graduates and list of honorees.
Pleasanton editor Joe Andrews says a Tuesday night hailstorm swept through Atascosa County from Somerset northward to McMullen, Jourdanton to Charlotte. The four mile wide by 30 mile long path damaged crops cotton and corn, felled fruit and truck crops, flattened vegetation, and left many homes badly damaged.
The Young Peoples Society of the First Evangelical Church Karnes City presents a three act comedy drama Poor Father directed by Rev Aug Ar tus at the Three Oaks School House next Sunday night May 25 at 8 30 pm. Twelve actors headline a production already staged with strong reception in Karnes City and nearby towns. A large crowd is expected and readers are urged to see the special page eight advertisement.
Wilson County Fair Association directors met at noon Monday at the White House Cafe. After lunch they outlined plans for the coming fall fair. Special prizes will be offered to the Club Boys organized by County Agent Beck. Committees will be announced soon.
Floresville Troop No 1 led by Miss Mary Frances Baldwin travels to Camp Comal near New Braunfels for a week of camping and training under San Antonio Public Service Company sponsorship. Chaperones Mrs Lucille Davenport and Miss Josephine Brown join. activities include basket weaving, nature study, and a Romany Day costume event with badge competitions.
Eugene Dickey editor of Fal furrias Facts visited his brother Mayor L M Dickey and wife in town then traveled to San Antonio to stay with Edwin Dickey. The group returned to Pleasanton for Mother's Day at the Park home with Miss Cleo Dickey. two members were absent Marvin Dickey and Miss Louise Dickey.
Randolph Field dedication plans reveal the world’s largest flying school hosting June 20 to 21 events with 50 to 60 visiting military planes, a 100-plane aerial review, and invitations issued to 2,500 guests including representatives from every American continent.
The Floresville Musical Club will present its last school year program next Tuesday May 27 at 4 p.m. at the president Mrs De C Houston home. Out of town artists will perform and officers for the new year will be elected. Hostesses include Mesdames S W Teas J T Sheehy George Stephenson J W Spruce William Smith I M Smith of Poth John H Spruce and Misses Marguerite Sheehy Lillian Spruce Marie Vela.
Miss Vivian Johnson of Bishop high school tops her class as valedictorian for the 1930 graduation. She has earned the highest honors in her class for the past ten years, as announced by Bishop High School officials.
H Wells, secretary and field man for Floresville Chamber of Commerce, reports shipments expected in about ten days as fields show improving conditions. Prospects for a bumper crop are good with corn more even this season, while tomatoes delay due to cloudy weather. Chris Moehrig of Black Hill logged 25000 pounds from one acre. cucumbers linger, black-eyed peas look fine, and growers are asked to report weekly progress.
County agent reports strong response with fifty seven boys enrolling for club work. Hegari being planted as part of the program with a feeding demonstration included to illustrate duties and methods.
County boys enrolled in the hegari club promoted by Agent Beck will plant one crept of seed and fatten a pig or calf as part of the feeding program. About 300 pounds of seed have been planted with 200 more available. Banks and Alamo Lumber Co. offer a special prize to winners to be announced later, and the Wilson County Fair Association endorses the movement.
Two filling stations in Floresville have been leased by major oil firms through local reps. Ben Greif leased a station to Magnolia Company but will continue in charge. The Texas Company station on the highway, previously Mac's Place, is now leased to Gus Ullmann of Ullmann’s Wale Works, with Ullmann taking personal charge. Our Want Ads Are Result-Getters.
The Chronicle Journal corrects an ad error from last week naming Ullmann as featuring Staffel's Mixed Seed. It states Ullmann features all Staffel products and carries a high tested line of seed in a modern up to date business location.
