Cousins Restaurant Opens Near Floresville
Cousins Restaurant, opened last week four miles north of Floresville at Loop 181 and Highway 181, is owned by Gerald O'Brien and Marshall Eiserer who are cousins. The dual dining rooms seat up to 120, with a large outdoor patio for 200 to 300 guests, offering steaks, seafood, local meats, beer and wines, a weekend live music lineup, and catering for parties. Future plans include an adjacent antique store and flea market.

New Addition to Courthouse Underway in Wilson County
Construction of an Emergency Operating Center begins at the Wilson County Courthouse. The facility will host City Police and DPS offices, provide a conference room, and act as a fallout shelter and crisis communications link for local, state, and federal systems. Federal grant funds up to 250,000 cover part of the cost. remaining expenses will be spread over two years.

Dziuk Wins State Shot Put Title Sets New Record
Janice Dziuk daughter of Clarence and Gladys Dziuk of Poth captured the AA Girls Shot Put state title at the U S Track and Field Meet in Austin. After weather delays she delivered a 44 ft 2.5 in throw to break the 427.11 inch record set by Vernell Dunn of Natalia in 1985 earning the gold medal and a lasting mark in the record books.

Floresville Downtown Association Formed
A group of downtown business people met at City Hall on Wednesday May 7 to form the Floresville Downtown Association. Interim officers were elected to promote better business conditions and increased commerce. A meeting is set for Thursday June 12 at 7 PM, City Hall, with contact numbers for Polly Bayer and Ryan Kelley. Memorial Day holiday closes Floresville Electric Light and Power on May 26, 1986.

Misville lights shot out by guns in Floresville
Since April 23 the Floresville Power and Light Co reports eight street lights shot out by guns and eight more on Path. Most incidents in the northwest. A Goliad Road resident watched a child shoot a light with a BB gun. Repair cost about 80 dollars per light, total around 400. Each fix takes 30 minutes. some lights repaired twice in a week. Discharging weapons within city limits is illegal. criminal mischief with fines up to 200 dollars. Report incidents to the Police Dept at 393-2535.

Name The Park Contest In Full Swing
The city of Floresville launches a contest to name the downtown park starting Monday the 19th. Organized by the Main Street Project City of Floresville and American Legion Post 38 the drive invites public suggestions via yellow green posters and flyers in downtown businesses. Names may be submitted until noon June 2 with finalists announced on the 10th and voting to follow at local venues. Memorial Day closings noted for the Bank of Floresville May 26.
