Tom Tom Tomato Festival Heads to Yoakum June 11 Parade
The 18th annual Tomato Tom Tom festival will be held in Yoakum from June 10 to 12. The big parade is scheduled for Friday June 11 at 2 PM with Floresville Band participating. A special post parade concert on streets at 3 45 PM will honor Floresville and Wilson county residents attending the event.

Wilson County Farm To Market Road Contracts Awarded
The State Highway Commission on May 11 tabulated low bids totaling over 6 million for two farm to market road projects in Wilson County. A second bid list the next day raised the total to about 12 million. The Wilson County projects include F M 539 seven miles graded with structures and asphalt surfacing at 44 692 and F M 537 five point three miles graded with structures and asphalt at 38 793. Deputy.

Father Of Supt. Schiewitz Passes Away
Floresville reports the death of Supt Floyd Schiewitz father in Edna Texas on Tuesday night after months of illness. He was a prominent Edna businessman and respected citizen. his widow is a longtime Edna High School faculty member. Funeral held Thursday at 10:00 AM with school board members and faculty in attendance.

Dean Arno Nowotny To Deliver Floresville High Address
Forty four Floresville High School seniors will receive diplomas tonight in one of the largest graduating classes in the school's history. UT Austin's Dean Arno Nowotny is the speaker of the evening, a widely known educator. A record crowd is expected. Honor students include valedictorian Ralph Jentsch and salutatorian John D. Carr, with Miss Mary Louise Roemer as top girl graduate. The class has enjoyed ten days of festivities, ending with the Alumni Association banquet at the Methodist Church basement.

The program lists processional invocation salutatorian and valedictorian addresses. Mrs. A C Johnson Dies at 60 in Floresville Memorial Hospital
Mrs. A C Johnson, 60, died at 12:15 a.m. on May 16, 1948, at Nick Memorial Hospital Floresville after a brief illness. She had traveled to San Antonio with friends days before falling critically ill. Religious services were held at Floresville Methodist Church with Rev C B Diltz of Elgin officiating, assisted by local pastors. Burial was in Floresville Cemetery with pallbearers Melvin Johnson Morris Johnson H O Wiseman Jesse Ray Pittman Wendell Jolly and J A Jolly. Mrs. Johnson was born June 8, 1887 in Parita community, Wilson County, the daughter of F L and Molly Jolly. The funeral was well attended.

Commencement Held At Stockdale High School 1948
Stockdale High School completed the 1948 term with largely attended commencement activities last week. The program included Baccalaureate on Sunday May 16 with sermons by Rev. W J Clements and Rev. Dick Melton, various musical numbers by Elizabeth Sutton and others, class history by Gaylon Click, a class prophecy by Imogene Henry, and a class will by Willette Denson.
