Wilson County farmers boost soil conservation in 1948 program
Wilson County 600 farmers carried out ACP soil practices during 1948 including 117 terraces and 128 earth dams, planting winter and summer legumes, seeding grasses, and applying superphosphate. The county received $76,600 with farmers contributing about half the out of pocket cost, totaling $53,546.41 in government and private effort to conserve soil and water resources.

Melvin Chaney Dies Sunday in La Vernia
Melvin Chaney a longtime resident of the La Vernia and Sutherland Springs area died at his La Vernia home Sunday May 15 after a long illness. He served as precinct constable for several years and was well known locally. Details on his death and funeral will be published next week. Friends across Floresville and Wilson County extended deepest sympathy to his family.

Hughes Recovers After Major Operation in San Antonio
M. M. Hughes, Wilson county tax collector assessor, underwent a major operation at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio last Friday. He withstood the procedure well and is now recuperating at his home near Floresville. It will be several days before Mr. Hughes resumes full activity.
