Hearing ordered for Tuesday May 31 at 10 am to decide on invoking a road bond election for 60000 dollars to fill a gap on Highway No 16 from two miles from Floresville through Po to the Karnes county line. The court action, following a petition by 183 property taxpayers, aligns with the new road law and sets the stage for the election.
Austin May 15 Governor Moody Lenay denies any plan to run for the United States Senate in 1928. He says he is not conducting a campaign, is focused on duties as Texas governor, and objects to being named in discussions about possible candidates. He emphasizes his record and responsibility to fulfill his office.
A college program featured two one act plays. The Quiet Spread depicted a jolly college girls party disrupted by a timid mouse. Teachers join in the merriment. A musical finale showed Bill Sheehy selecting Sweet Genévieve as the Colonial Girl amid a living photograph tableau.
Gonzales Texas May 18 September 1 1927 is the probable date for natural gas to enter Gonzales for commercial and domestic use. A Houston concern surveys the pipeline route and will begin construction within two weeks. The project also plans gas supply to Yoakum and Cuero.
Commencement service last Sunday drew a large crowd as Dr. Thos. Gregory delivered a stirring message in a beautiful affair. The speaker’s address energized attendees and highlighted moral reflection and community values.
The Julia Rhode Circle met with Mrs W B Thomas May 9 with six members present due to illness in others homes. Guest Miss Anna Belle Thomas attended. Next meeting will be with Mrs Murray to study Leviticus and read the entire book is emphasized as very interesting.
The first car of Texas watermelons is being shipped from Falfurrias on May 18, averaging over 250 pounds, at 8 12 cents f. o. b. Falfurrias. An active movement of melons is set to start on Monday as shipments begin from the region.
A large crowd attended the Poth School closing exercises on Wednesday night where four youths received awards. District Judge W O Murray delivered a fine address. Rev T F Sessions and Mrs Sessions visited Floresville with S E Seale and wife and called on the paper. A full program report will appear next week.
A local sports meet in Sutherland Springs was postponed yesterday with the exact date and full details to be announced later. Chronicle-Journal notes the decision and promises future updates.
