On May 3 1966 World War I veterans and wives gathered at the American Legion Hall. Attendees enjoyed games in the morning and a large potluck lunch. Residents from New Braunfels Floresville Pleaanton Saspamco Poth Norman and Floresville Barracks and Auxiliaries held separate meetings. An poem by E E Terry appeared in the column Around the Corner noting friends lost to time.
The item notes Gov. John Connally will address Falls City High School graduates on May 27. It also profiles top graduates Miss Linda Moy valedictorian with a 97.19 average and Pat Hoffmann salutatorian with a 95.16 average, detailing their activities and honors. Floresville LULAC Council No 254 names Esther Alley as Queen for 1966-67. Poth Pirates beat Medina Valley Panthers 7-3 in Castroville reclaiming the bi-district crown after edging them 3-2 in the first game. Medina Valley errors opened the door for five runs in the first inning as Poth built a lead in the playoff series.
Supt Eugene Stover announced Stockdale High School top students. Valedictorian Laura Sue Lorenz, daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Lorenz Jr, and salutatorian Randy Rutland were named. Jim Wehmeyer won first in Number Sense class A at the state UIL meet in Austin.
Applications are open in Atascosa Karnes and Wilson counties for the Neighborhood Youth Corps. Eleven cities will participate. about 200 youths ages 16 to 21 from poverty families will work 24 hours weekly at $1.25 per hour on public property. The program runs through July 13 with a $92,200 budget and includes instructional and counseling classes.
The Poth Elementary Closing Exercises will be held at the Poth High School Gym on Friday May 20 at 10 am. Awards and special recognitions will be presented. Presentation of 8th grade diplomas will be made to 36 graduates.
Poth Vegetable Co of Poth announces the sale of twelve head of registered Angus cows and a bull. The offering includes a pool to gel bull among the cattle listed for disposal.
On May 2 at 7 00 p m the Women s Society of Christian Service and Wesleyan Service Guild met at the Church Recreation Hall for a combined installation of the 1966 67 officers conducted by Rev Jess Mothersbaugh. Mrs Robert Spruce led the pledge program and reviewed the year s work before prayer.

The regular semi annual meet of the Fairview Cemetery Association will be held Monday May 30. The Baptist Church will lead the program with a Memorial message at 11 a.m. A basket lunch at noon precedes the business meeting at 1 30 p.m.
The Bluebonnet League results show Mowcnaak beating Flor with a 12 to 7 score for Sunday May 15 as Cubs posted seven runs in a closely contested game.
The May meeting was held at Mrs. Gene Hartman’s home with Mrs. Perr and Mrs. Hartman as hostesses. Members present included Mesdames Walter Albert, L. L. Broom, Leon Gordon, Hy. Mares, R. L. Perry, Edwin Peschke, Floyd Roberson, Emil Hartman, Willie Marsh, Robi Mills, and Miss Madeline Grahmann. Minutes were read, treasurer’s report given, and plans discussed for visiting a Nursing Home and peanut butter sales for the Peanut Festival. Mrs. M. M. Mills was elected IHCA chairman candidate to be voted on in council.
Pamela Connally daughter of State Rep Wayne Connally is receiving rabies vaccine at Memorial Hospital Floresville after a rabid skunk bite at her home. The skunk ran under the house and bit her knee before being killed and sent to Austin for testing. Her father won the Democratic Senate nomination in the May 7 primaries.
