Adolph Wright, a farmer west of Floresville, reports two aged cows backing the Food For Victory program. From March 1948 to December 1943 the red muley and a 12-year-old cow yielded butter fat worth 317.89 and calves valued at 100, plus fattened hogs from skim milk. Wright estimates total value at 517.89, with 99.75 butterfat revenue in the year’s first two months.

Mrs R J Goesch Funeral Held Sunday
Funeral services for Mrs. R. J. Goesch aged 61 who died at Blake hospital Friday night were conducted Sunday. A brief service was held at the family home at 3 30 followed by religious rites at First Lutheran Church where she had long been a faithful member. Rev Theo Winter paid tribute to her life as a Christian wife and mother amid floral tributes.

Mrs Ed Harper dies early Wednesday with funeral services at Murray Funeral Home. Rev W McKinney of Nixon led tributes to her Christian life. Burial followed at Harper Cemetery Sunnyside. Born February 7 1877 in Mississippi she was Jennie Hudson before marrying Ed Harper in 1897. The couple lived on the Sunnyside farm for 47 years.

Final Victory Band Concert draws 700 in Floresville
Floresville School Band, winner of two state honors last year in war bond drives, closed the year with the fifth Victory Band Concert at the high school auditorium. About 700 attendees from town and rural areas filled the venue to honor a 50 member ensemble directed by Fritz Teltschik. Seniors E. F. Smith and Victor Lange led two numbers as the band received praise for its year of community war effort and loyal service.

S. A. Marine Knocks Out 12 Jap Pillboxes
Bougainville action reports First Lieut. William R. Wiseman, 28, of 1019 North St. Mary's, commanding a 90 mm anti air gun battery, responsible for 12 of 14 Japanese pillboxes knocked out during an attack on American air fields. Two guns silenced 14 pillboxes, two artillery pieces, and an estimated 75 Japanese killed. Wiseman, son of Mr and Mrs W R Wiseman of San Antonio, hails from Floresville and his family are noted Wilson county pioneers.
