Outgoing Floresville Mayor Raymond Ramirez says council members interfere with city staff and the city manager, detailing how codes enforcement officer Joe Jones resigned amid claims of pressure. Ramirez expects a recall petition against Pete Sanchez and Frank Villarreal soon, while Villarreal denies directing hires and touts benefits from skilled hires.
In Floresville, mayoral candidates Danny Tejada and Josie Herrera advance to a likely June run off after Tejada led with 490 votes about 35 percent and Herrera 26.4 percent with 358. Council races saw Rudy Sanchez top Paul Sack 746 to 491 for place one, while Gloriana Ortiz faced no opposition for place two. School board Districts 7 and Floresville district races also proceed to runoffs with tight results. Stockdale voters approve a 5.5 million school bond 153 to 147.
Floresville's wastewater plant now releases cleaner water to the San Antonio River after TCEQ penalties and a major overhaul. SARA engineers, city staff, and new supervisor Joe Ximenez redesigned operations, increased flushing to three to four times weekly, automated chlorine monitoring, and daily testing. The racetrack sludge is reduced but not yet fully cleared. three to five more months are needed. Office expansion and worker facilities are under way, with on site laundry and showering to prevent contamination.
