Track standouts Albert Matthews shine at state meet in Austin
Merland Albert placed sixth in the 3200 meter at the 68th Annual State Track Meet with 4 31 2. He won three mile titles this season at Refugio Yoakum and Karnes City and set a school record 4 26 76 at Gregory Portland. Kenneth Matthews finished sixth in the 400 meters clocking 49 4 and claimed four season wins at Cole Refugio Karnes City and District 29 AA with two second places at Yoakum Region IV AA and state qualifiers Karnes City. Kenneth holds the school 400 meter record of 49 4 in meters, first time the race was run in metric distance. Bryan Orth noted on Page 12.

Steve Laskowski was named to fill a five year term on the Wilson County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, replacing Conrad Pruske. Floresville appoints new Chief of Police Antonio Griego
Floresville assigns Antonio M. Griego as Chief of Police with duties starting Tuesday May 9 1978. Griego served nearly five years with the Floresville Police Department and worked under two prior chiefs. He completed 496 hours of in service training at SAC in San Antonio. The city plans to hire two more officers.
