Dr. John T. Moore of Houston addressed a large Sunday crowd urging support for an educational campaign. He traced the disease's origin and described medical science work to combat cancer and called for public assistance.
Dr J W Oxford introduced Dr Moore who spoke at the Floresville Methodist Church on May 14 about The Waste of Life From Cancer. He cited that every 15 seconds a death from a curable disease occurs and that cancer ranks second to tuberculosis in deaths, with about 125000 yearly. He urged public lectures and noted the American Society For Control of Cancer and Texas Medical Association efforts. The Alumni Association of Floresville High School will hold its annual banquet for the graduating class on May 23 at the White House Cafe, 60 cents a plate, with reservations due by May 22.
Dr Moore speaks as H Sempner president of United States National Bank at Galveston says Texas should risk a decade of cooperation in cotton control rather than endure another decade of surfeit and despair from commodity fluctuations. The discussion came during the Texas Bankers Association convention in Dallas.
Floresville citizen J G Youngblood announced his bid for County Commissioner Precinct One as a Democrat in the July 28 primary. Born in Fairview and long a Floresville resident, he formerly served as city marshal and worked in local mercantile firms. He stressed broad business knowledge and public service as qualifications.

By yesterday evening the region exceeded 300 onion carloads with Poth at 250 shipped and an estimated 20 to 25 more to go. Floresville reported 24 shipped and four more cars loading. Local buyers include Roy Campbell Wise Wright and L V Stewart opening an office. Black Hill crop sends about 40 cars from Coughran with good weather expected to finish by next week.
W H Bud Tanneberger runs a store at Fairview and tends a two acre dewberry patch that's proven lucrative for about ten years. This season vines suffered from winter frost but he has harvested around 250 crates at roughly one dollar per crate and may add a few more before season end. Past years saw as much as $500 from the patch, though this year he expects about $125 per acre. Local climate and soil in Wilson county support high berry quality, per his long experience. John H Mayes and George Draeger visited Seguin last Sunday.
State Senator W K Hopkins of Gonzales testifies before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, arguing Texas would lose sovereignty to a foreign court. He notes Texas has six flags but needs no foreign adjudication, and warns that tariffs, debts, oil, cotton, and cattle would be decided by distant powers. He stresses Texas producers would be voiceless in such a system.
Mayor Merrill W. Smith of Stockdale, candidate for Representative from the 78th District which includes Wilson and Karnes counties, visited Floresville greeting friends and voters. He had just returned from Victoria where he testified in district court and said he would campaign actively in the two counties visiting every community before Election Day.
Geo Hassmann traveled from Den Hawken to town last Sunday, drawing attention from locals curious about his visit and activities during the day.
Pastor Floresville Methodist Church delivers baccalaureate sermon Sunday night with Rev A A Carter Mrs John W Spruce and choir led by R E B Spruce serving the ceremony at the church setting.
The program lists Miss Geraldine Lane and Elizabeth Anne Marek as graduates with Supt S P Conn and President E W Seale presiding. Hon S and B Carr are noted among speakers as Mo ihes et do es tein seein. The ceremony occurs Monday May 21 at 8 00 p m.
The Gonzales Crop Production Credit Association hosted a large barbecue in Gonzales with Owen W. Sherrill of the Houston head office as principal speaker. Officials from Floresville and county officers attended. Governor Myers announced a reduction to 5 percent interest on new loans from production credit associations, effective immediately, with existing loans unaffected. The association serves Gonzales DeWitt Lavaca Karnes and Wilson counties, funded by the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of Houston. The two prior reductions in two months were from 6 to 5.5 percent, then to 5 percent, enabling borrowers to save on farming costs. The bank’s lower rates reflect investor confidence and cheaper access to money for farm loans.
Floresville Grammar School holds commencement exercises at Floresville High School tonight at 8 o clock with Invocation by Rev A A Carter salutatory by Bessie Wiseman and a valedictory by Carroll Richardson. Students listed include Pedro Vasquez Alfred Fliller Bessie Hesskew Mary Jane Oates Helen McDonald and others. A separate notice reports 5 year old Georgie Klesel struck by a car near her home, rushed to Ox.

Pupils of Miss Jewel Franklin and Mrs. E F Woolsey Jr of Floresville staged a Friday evening recital at the high school auditorium. Two short plays featured the young actors with strong training. The maker of dreams and Tom Piper and the Pig impressed a large audience as piano solos complemented the program.
