Supt J A Poston tendered resignation at a special school board meeting after years of service in Floresville public schools. He and Mrs Poston had been offered larger positions, and he plans to leave for Lah June. The board expressed thanks for his work and will seek a successor.
Floresville businessman Carl Johnson launches The Arcadia cinema in the Tales Building after remodel. He previously ran The Pershing Theatre for seven years. The opening bill features Old Tronsides with doors to open at eight, promising a record crowd.
The Department of Education in Austin Texas on May 9 1928 informs J A Poston Floresville Texas that one English credit in the 4th unit will be allowed without material submission based on a supervisor visit. Credit retention depends on upholding standards and keeping material for supervisor review. The message, signed by A M Blackman Chief Supervisor of High Schools, congratulates the school on its good work.
Houston assistant agricultural agent for Southern Pacific Lines in Texas spent hours in Floresville meeting County Agent E. D. Beck and Floresville Chamber officers. He gathered data for SP Magazine feature stories and showed interest in local diversification programs. Blanche and Evelyn Cale, here for school, returned to Coughran to spend summer.
Miss Frances Spruce delivers salutatory and Miss Frances Poston gives the commencement address as Rev. Scarborough of Laredo and Texas House member O F Burney speak. Bobbitt honors, Dr Sparks presents diplodias at the Floresville Methodist ceremony.
The spring term of district court ends after a five week session. State of Texas v Lupe Maldanado and Sabino Maldanado ends with Sabino dismissed and Lupe found guilty, receiving two years and six months in prison. Jury commissioners Reese Eckel Tackitt set for fall term. Judge Murray and DA Slatton to open court in Jourdanton next Monday.
The Floresville High School Alumni Association plans a Monday May 21 banquet at the White House Cafe starting 8 30 pm to honor 23 graduates. Miss Lasca Franklin heads the association, plates are 1 50, reservations due May 19. Also notes the Floresville Baptist Church welcomed a son last Friday night blessing by Rev A B Weathersby.
Floresville High School held a baccalaureate service in the auditorium despite heavy Saturday night rain. Rev. Peachy delivered the message as musical numbers and floral decorations enhanced the event. Some graduates could not attend due to flooding. nonetheless a sizable crowd gathered to honor the class.
General rainfall across Southwest Texas, especially Wilson County, totals 2.20 inches. The heavy downpour Saturday night and Sunday morning flooded fields, benefiting corn, cotton, and future crops. Farmers report renewed optimism as rains reach eastern Wilson County and Three Oaks Dewees area.
Mrs Adolph Coldeway and her sister Miss Annie Malcher were badly burned when a steam canner exploded while assisting their mother in canning beets at their parents’ home. They received prompt treatment at Blake Hospital and are improving. The accident occurred last Friday afternoon.
