High School Band Director Dan Frels and Jr. High Director Charles Conner received gifts from their bands at the Spring Concert. Frels earned a portable cooler and space heater while Conner got a shirt and tie. Both were given a framed letter of appreciation from Band Parents.
A spaghetti dinner will be served on May 20, 1973 from noon to 1 30 p m in the Fellowship Hall of Floresville United Methodist Church. Tickets may be purchased from Youth Fellowship members or at the door. Proceeds help cover youth camp fees.
Registration for Little League age 9 to 12 and Girls Slow Pitch age 9 to 16 has been extended to May 19. Bring proof of age and entrance fee to Little League Field from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday morning.
The San Antonio Panthers captured first place in a six team Floresville event at Juarez Field on Sunday May 6. Herman Hermits led by Herman Garza took second, Flo Falcons managed by Alex Trevino earned third as the tournament ran smoothly with full cooperation from players and managers.
Recent Medicare changes remove the three year Part B enrollment deadline. Roy L. Swift of the San Antonio Social Security Office urged consulting a social security representative at the Floresville courthouse at 8:30 a.m. Thursday May 17. No tournament was held last Sunday due to Mother's Day, but a six team event is planned for Sunday May 20 with three Floresville and three San Antonio teams.
The SPJST Youth Club sponsors a drag seminar open to adults and children with Officer Lary Stephens of Castle Hills Police Depart ment as speaker. A film discussion and display cover Texas drug laws and drugs in general. Parents urged to attend with children. May 18 at 8:30 p.m. at SPJST Hall Floresville 4 miles west on Farm to Market 1303.
Wilfred Waclawczyk was honored as Employee of the Month in the Redistribution and Marketing Division. He served as a property utilization assistant in Property Control and Redistribution, handling over 800 transfers and recall items to active stock while providing high quality assistance to property utilization specialists.
Keith Braddock signed a letter of intent with the San Marcos S W T S U football program in San Marcos Texas. He stands 6 1 and weighs 210 pounds and played tight end for the Floresville Tigers last fall. He is a three year basketball starter and two year track letterman. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Howard A Braddock of Floresville Texas.
Starting July 1, people 65 and over who have not secured Medicare hospital insurance may apply for protection now, per Roy L. Swift social security district manager in San Antonio.
Wilson County Commissioners approved the Road District No. 8 bond award to Underwood Neuhaus & Co of Houston at 5 100518 percent. They also named A T Hoelscher Wilson County School Superintendent effective June 1 1973 after S W Seale resignation. A high ambul ance bid was rejected and further actions planned. Corrections note clothing trainer session May 16 at McCreless Shopping Center San Antonio and a Floresville house item with date May 24 at 8 30 a.m.
Patrick George Vinyard of Floresville, son of Mr and Mrs George A Vinyard, is named valedictorian of the 1973 Floresville High School graduating class. He is an honor student, member of the school band Beta Club, Math contest participant, 4-H entomology team winner, and plans to attend Texas A&M University for pre medicine this fall.
Floresville High picks pep squad members Rosemary Medina Cindy Seguin Suzanne Braddock Jan Svoboda Aurora Gonzales and Karen Johns. The selection was made by fellow squad members. Floresville High students also compete in the Alamo District Council Teachers of Mathematics contest in San Antonio with Ernest Young Tim Stalla Katherine Haverlah Pat Winyard Carol Gregory Ella Kay Kolenda David Johnston and Mrs Gwendolyn Hierhulzer as sponsors and participants.
E. R. Mobley, a San Antonio and Wilson County rancher, receives a plaque and certificate for honorary Floresville FFA membership from President Scott Donaho for his contributions to the local chapter. The event is documented by Bob Crabb with accompanying photos of Jan Svoboda and George of Floresville receiving jacket and plaque respectively.
