Wilson Memorial Hospital marks twenty five years of service since its 1960 dedication and opening. A day of family activities and entertainment unfolds Sunday May 19 1985 starting 8:00 a.m. and continuing into evening with a full activities schedule inviting all residents of Wilson County and surrounding areas.
The Floresville High School and Middle School Bands present their spring concert on Thursday May 16 at 7 30 p m in the Wiley Seale Auditorium. Admission is free and all are invited. The Tiger band plays contest music along with excerpts from Fiddler on the Roof and other pieces while the Cub Band features sixth graders on the first four tunes. More marches and two soloists follow.
The Poth Bands will present their Spring Concert on Tuesday May 21 1984. Performers include beginner band junior high and high school ensembles. The concert starts at 7 30 p m in the high school gym and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
A mid morning ceremony at the Wilson County Courthouse on May 10 1985 dedicated a Texas State Historical Marker for Reverend James Charles Wilson Sr name origin of Wilson County. Wilson County Judge Del Cox introduced Homer Wilson great great grandson who spoke briefly about the honor. A telegram from Milton Wilson Nashville was presented to Homer. The marker was donated by Scott Clark in memory of his wife, with the Texas State Department noted.
Obituary notes the death of Dr. Victoria Danilovna Bartonek after a May 12 1985 crash near Sealy. Services planned in Floresville including a memorial at Sacred Heart Church, a funeral from Vinyard Funeral Home, and interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. She lived in Sealy, ran a clinic in Wallis, and contributed to Brazos Valley hospital care. Survived by husband and four Floresville children.
The public is invited to tour Head Start programs on May 16 and 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the annex of El Mesias Methodist Church in Second and Trail streets. The celebration marks Head Start’s nationwide anniversary and highlights services since 1966 benefiting hundreds of low income children and handicapped aides.
The Floresville Athletic Booster Club invites all Tigers and fans to an All Sports Banquet this Friday May 17 at 7 30 PM. A delicious Bar B Q brisket dinner with all the trimmings will be served. Support your hometown athletes and join the community event.
The chamber invites all to a band concert on May 18 at 7:00 PM followed by a dance at 9:00 PM. Music will be by Start Alley Public.
