I Sheehy elected president as new directors take office alongside other officers named Tuesday night. Head of Poultry Association speaks at meeting outlining plans and priorities for the year.
The Floresville High School Senior class presented Green Stockings to a large audience. Twelve class members acted in a comedy of English life with solid performances. Proceeds exceeded $96 for the school, with praise for the cast and directing faculty.
A splendid rainfall of 0.68 inches fell Tuesday night with a severe electrical storm. No major damage was reported though western and southern areas saw heavier rain and hail. Tomato crops suffered minor harm and Atascosa County endured heavy hail damage. Sunshine is needed for several days across the county.
Mr and Mrs B D Mayes and Mrs B S Fitzgerald visited San Antonio on Saturday for a short social stop. Their trip highlighted local ties and hospitality with planned return in coming weeks.
Floresville residents not yet counted should be added to the census. The Floresville Chamber of Commerce has hired Ri Seale and A L de la Zerda to conduct a city wide re check. Citizens are urged to cooperate and notify the committee if any person or family is missed.
Floresville public event lists commencement program with speakers Hon Carl Wright Johnson of San Antonio and President of the School Board. Diplomas and scholarships to be presented. Choir and orchestra perform pieces including Abide With Me and Roses of Picardy as part of the program.
The seventh grade spent a day in San Antonio with chaperones including Principal Stanley Coughran and staff. They visited Winburn Flying Field San Jose Mission the Alamo Brackenridge Park and Witte Museum. A picnic lunch swim and ice cream followed as students expressed happiness with the day and anticipation for next year.
The Floresyillé Grammar School holds its commencement this afternoon at 3 o clock in the school auditorium. Rev. Ve Keller offers the invocation, with welcome by Principal Stanley Joughran. Valedictory by Elizabeth Marek and salutatory by Evelyn Fore, as certificates are awarded. graduates include Elizabeth Marek Evelyn Far s vian Rathburn Graham McNiel Bohach Robert Spruce Winseald Adella Marek Freida Wagenfouler Anna Lea George Antonilette George ay Lee McInvale Emma.
Responding to an invitation from the Music Lover 8 Club of Cuero, Floresville artists performed Wednesday at the Cuero home of Mrs Otto Buchel. The program featured Mrs Elbert Franklin, Miss Lorraine Meeks, Sara Mary Lieberman, Marie Vela, and Judith Simon from New York, with Mrs J C Houston as accompanist. The Cuero club praised the Floresville visitors and a corsage bouquet was given by Mrs Thornton Hamilton to Mrs J C Houston, signaling strong club ties.
Mrs. Paul Neubauer and her daughter Mrs. Frank Boll with Mr. Paul Mueller left Saturday for Galveston and boarded the Yorck of North German Lloyd for a three week voyage to Germany. They will stop at Havana and Spain and plan to land at Bremen by August after visiting relatives across Germany.
J C Merchant president and H C Wells secretary of Floresville Chamber of Commerce with BE D Beck county agent and Ed Franklin cashier of First National Bank attended the Nixon Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on Thursday night of last week. crowd noted.
Instructions to Flor esville tomato and cucumber growers urge immediate picking to capture rising prices. Buyers pay six cents per pound for tomatoes. cucumbers should be cut with a half inch stem left on to avoid culling. Farmers advised to bring small first quantities to gauge buyer preference and to visit the packing shed for guidance.
The commissioners court convened on Monday with Judge C Stevenson presiding and four commissioners in attendance. The day was spent as a board of equalization reviewing tax renditions filed with the county for assessment. The court will resume the tax matter at the next regular term.
Mrs Alex Lieberman and children and Mrs Augusta Chappell were seen in San Antonio Saturday.
District Court concludes its six week term with many cases disposed and several continued. The closing session marks the end of the spring term as judges wrap up docket items and prepare for upcoming matters.
The spring term of the district court ends Saturday after six weeks noted as one of the heaviest. During the term 44 civil cases and 11 divorce cases were tried, with about 30 criminal cases remaining on the docket likely to be continued to the fall term. The State of Texas vs Angel Mendoza for killing Felipe Mendoza went to trial, the jury finding guilt and a three year penitentiary sentence. The State of Texas vs Antonio Arocha, murder of Mateo Tegeda, was set for May 14 but continued due to missing defense counsel. next term jurors chosen.
