About 150 former country school teachers and students in the southern Wilson County area met at the VFW Hall in Poth on Sunday April 27 1997 for fellowship and meals. They urged broad participation in the next reunion set for April 25 1999 at the same venue.
Floresville City Council unanimously approved funding for a new amusement park across from Floresville High School on Highway 181. The project will be financed through Floresville Economic.
The Wilson County DPS log covers May 1 1997 to May 6 1997 detailing several crashes. Notable incidents include Jan Richard Cox and Susan Shoemaker on County Road 357 near La Vernia with citations for failure to yield and speeding. Other events involve stop sign collisions on US 87 TX 123 near Stockdale, a multi-vehicle FM 537 incident near Floresville, a rollover on FM 536 west of Floresville, a fence collision on County Road 117 north of Floresville, and rollovers along US 80 near Nixon and TX 123 near Stockdale. No injuries in some cases. others required EMS transport or vehicle tow. A separate item notes FEDC land conveyance to Park Fun Park with phased financing and job projections.
A Wilson County Tourism Bureau planning meeting at Promised Land Restaurant discussed creating a Wilson County Tourist Center on Highway 181 to boost tourism. TxDOT notes over 11,000 daily vehicles on 181, the county’s busiest road, with a subcommittee to present plans to towns aided by AACOG.
Outdoor sand volleyball leagues will form at Floresville City Park with 2 3 and 4 man divisions across co ed mens and womens levels based on interest. Entry fee will be minimal and lights may be installed if response is strong. Courts expected ready by May 20 1997. For info contact Rudy Rios at 393-0278.

The Sutherland Springs School Reunion will be held Saturday May 17 1997 at the Community Building in Sutherland Springs. The building opens at 10 00 a m and a luncheon will be served at 1 00 p m guests should bring a covered dish utensils and drinks are provided by organizers.
Superintendent Joe Robinson announced Lamar Lewis as Floresville High School’s new head football coach. Lewis brings 17 years of coaching, last season serving as defensive coordinator for the Bi-District champion Tigers, and will lead the program into the 1997 season opening September 5 at home versus the Linton Pirates.
Darrell Pool, a Poth rancher, was inducted into the St. Mary's University Athletics Hall Of Fame. A former Rattler basketball post player, he earned a health and physical education degree and pursued a long career in teaching math, then serving as principal and superintendent in Southside, Somerset, and Pleasanton districts before retiring in 1994. He now ranches cattle in Path.
