Floresville Chamber of Commerce Names New Officers and Plans
The Floresville Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting at the courthouse and elected new officers and directors. President H W Filleman praised the group and requested full support. A T Hoelscher served as secretary. The chamber renewed South Texas Chamber dues and discussed peanut seed for a county-wide 4 H and FFA contest, a Kenedy festival report, and booster trips for the Floresville School Band. A lawn beautification idea was postponed for detailed planning. County Agent Cook urged Dairy Day support, while Farm Bureau leaders debated agricultural legislation.

B W Adams of Floresville Implement Company and F A Nitschman will travel by special train from Dallas to Oklahoma City for a distributor dealer meeting of about 600 Ford Tractor and Farm Equipment dealers of the southwest. Frank Pierce of Dearborn Motors Corporation with Og Farrell and Larry Pomeroy will deliver talks at a luncheon at the Skirvin Hotel. The Stewart Company of Dallas and San Antonio are state distributors. Nearly 200 dealers expected to attend.

Austin congressman Lyndon B. Johnson announced his bid for the United States Senate on May 12, adding fuel to a hot Texas primary contest. Front runners Coke Stevenson and George Peddy faced Johnson, who lost to O Daniel in 1941 by 1311 votes. Floresville Athlete Earns Two Third Places At State Meet
Eschenburg II from Floresville High School claimed two third place finishes at the State Interscholastic League Meet in Austin. He placed third in both the 440 yard dash and the 220 yard dash after winning preliminary heats. He is the first Floresville athlete to reach two state meet podium spots and starred in football basketball and track. He is the son of Mrs. C. R. Eschenburg and the late Carl Eschenburg.

Henson, longtime manager of the City Tailor Shop, recently remodeled the business in Marshall. The building was repaired interior walls redecorated, a new floor added, and the front entrance rebuilt. A new standard washing machine and solvent tank, both electric, were installed. A late model pressing machine is on order and expected to arrive soon.

Wilson County Rural School District formed in four schools
The Wilson County School Board unanimously regrouped La Vernia Sutherland Springs Richter and Kicaster into a new Wilson County Rural School District covering about 94 square miles in the northwest part of the county. Richter and Kicaster join as part of the plan while La Vernia High will serve the district high school needs and Sutherland Springs builds its elementary school.

Hoelscher's New Building Rises Quickly on Floresville Road
Construction of a 66 by 96 foot hollow tile building advances rapidly on the Floresville Corpus Christi Highway north of the city. The Hoelscher Truck and Implement Company will move into the spacious main structure upon completion, occupying about 1.5 acres bought from the late R. J. Schroller. Hoelscher, county agent for International Harvester, relocated from Poth in 1946 and now operates on D Street.

Robberts seeks Wilson county sheriff post in July primary
Dr. Robberts of Floresville announces candidacy for Wilson county sheriff in the July 24 Democratic primary. He served nearly six years as sheriff, resigned late in 1946, and previously four years as tax assessor collector. Robberts says he offers his public service record and asks voters to consider him. He attended the FBI National Police Academy in Washington for special training.
