Fragmentary OCR lists attendees Boo a and August Cone with Hunter McDaniel, mentions party delegations, trailers, exhibits, plants and a meet at Sparks. No clear event date or location provided beyond Sparks.
The twenty ninth annual Texas District convention of the Joint Synod of Ohio and Iowa and others concluded at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Floresville on May 11 with prayers by Rev. Nicolas Frueh. Delegates and pastors from Alabama Louisiana and Texas attended while a resolution urged the Joint Synod union. The council elected W Frnch Lavernia as President O Schilling New Orleans as Vice President E G Knaak San Antonio as Treasurer F A Neumeister Linton as Secretary and named delegates to Detroit. A reconstruction fund drive and church services highlighted the event along with special music by local choirs.
J Benton Morgan of Greenville, an overseas veteran, was chosen president of the Texas University students association. Other officers named include Wendell Mayes of Austin, star of the Cactus. H RB of Monterey Mex. George Fy petitioner of Daily Texa.
Washington May 12 The Department of Justice telegraphed all United States attorneys reaffirming the policy that sugar margins be held to 1 cent for wholesalers and 2 cents for retailers, aiming to curb price excesses and ensure fair distribution.
The big revival at the Methodist church ends Sunday with Rev. W C Swope as preacher and Miss Swope directing song. Large crowds attended, the largest in the revival. About 25 persons united with the Methodist and Baptist churches here.
A town notice warns drivers attending church services to park properly and avoid blocking traffic in the streets. It urges drivers not to leave cars in the middle of roads to keep passage clear for others.
Wilson county district court ends a busy four week term. Jasper House, held for forgery, was moved from the penitentiary for trial and returned. Halford Pace, charged with the murder of Collie Dykes, had a jury selected and the case sent to the jury as the paper went to press. Attorneys Byrne Canfield Morris Patterson appeared for the state and defense. Masons in Floresville hosted a Mexican supper and conferred Masters Degrees on Sam S. Fitzgerald and H. Mayes amid a large attendance.
A heavy rain last Friday night blessed Wilson County with about three quarters of an inch, heavier in Sutherland Springs and surrounding areas. It arrived at a vital time, aiding corn fields and starting cotton planting this week, though more rain is still needed. W. L. Rhodes of Merchant Lewis and Co. will leave Sunday for Sanderson to join Kerr Mercantile Co., with Mrs. Rhodes and the children likely to join later. Floresville mourns losing a respected family as their friends extend best wishes. The Chronicle-Journal offers the latest engraved visiting cards.
