H and H Pawn and Affordable Furniture celebrated its new Floresville location on Highway 181 with a ribbon cutting. A prize drawing held Tuesday May 4 awarded Gordon Rosene a 27 inch television and Jesse P Delgado a diamond ring among gifts to attendees.
A 16 month old child was bitten by a rattlesnake on May 7 1999 in Stockdale Texas. Wilson County Sheriff's Department assisted Stockdale EMS and Air Life to transport the child to a snake bite center for treatment.
The Tower Lake 4-H Club hosts a rabies clinic on Saturday May 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church parking lot Elmendorf shots are five dollars with other vaccines by Dr Kosub of County Line Animal Hospital The Floresville Booster Club meets Wednesday May 12 1999 at City Hall.
Early morning and mid afternoon rainfall in Floresville totaled about one and a half inches benefiting farmers and residents. A heavy Monday afternoon precipitation in San Antonio was reported as raining cats and dogs by a firsthand observer.
The Community Council of South Central Texas and San Antonio Food Bank contract with the Texas Department of Human Services to run the Texas Commodity Assistance Program aiding low income families and needy persons with USDA donated food. Eligibility follows income limits at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty line with residency, income, and ID proof required. Distribution dates May 17, 1999 at multiple Texas locations including Hermann Sons Hall and Floresville Senior Center.
The Floresville Senior Citizens Center invites the public to an open house from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday May 13 1999. The center sits at 1519 3rd Street in Floresville and attendees are encouraged to come.
The National Park Service and Los Compadres host an open house at the Spanish Colonial Rancho De Las Cabras near Floresville on Sunday May 23 from 1 to 4 pm. Shuttle buses from Floresville River Park will transport visitors to the ranch for archeology tours blacksmithing goat milking and vaquero demonstrations with a chuck wagon and music.
Floresville High School UIL Academic Team won the 30-AAAA District Meet with 402 points at Pleasanton High School on March 24 1999. Teams from Pleasanton Beeville Memorial Kennedy and Southside also competed. Top winners advanced to regional at UTSA April 24 1999.
Floresville will host summer youth camps sponsored by F.E.L.P.S. and the city. Football runs May 31 to June 1 from 8 am to noon for grades 2 through 9, Tennis runs June 7 to 11 with sessions for different age groups, Basketball June 14 to 18 for upper grades and younger sessions, Softball June 21 to 25, Track events June 22, 24, 29, July 1 and 6. Registration ends May 21 with half off for siblings and forms at school offices.
Wilson County Public Library thanks the Friends of the Library for fundraising that funds children's programs like Summer Reading and the weekly preschool story hour. The staff invite volunteers to become Friends and inquire at the library.
