Floresville Junior Chamber of Commerce selects Norbert N. Wake and Carl R. Eschenburg as outstanding young men of the year from the Floresville area. Biographical material will appear in the Outstanding Young Men of America book distributed to over 1000 colleges and high schools. Wake and Eschenburg honored for their tireless work in Floresville and surroundings.
The Poth High School Band presented its annual spring concert in the high school gym Sunday evening May 9 at 8 15. The program featured the Beginning Band of 23 fifth graders the Kosciusko Band and the Junior High Band. Alice Ann Pruski was named outstanding student of the Poth and Kosciusko Junior Bands and Treier triplets Virginia Vaughnell and Verra Sue were named outstanding members of the Senior Band. Band Boosters of the Year 1965 were Mr. and Mrs Don Albert.
Baccalaureate services for the 54 graduates of Poth High School will be held in the school auditorium on Sunday May 16 1966 at 8:00 p.m. Rev Brian P Crookes pastor of The Blessed Sacrament Church of Poth will deliver the sermon. Graduating exercises for the class of 1965 will follow Thursday May 20 1965 at 8:00 p.m. with Morris Fry of Southwest Texas State College San Marcos giving the address.
Coach J Taylor of Floresville resigns after two seasons with a 14 6 1 record to take the head football coach and athletic director duties at Seguin High School. He and his family plan to move to Seguin this summer, praising community support and friendships.
The Poth FFA held its annual Father and Son Banquet on Thursday April 22 at the Poth Hermann Sons Hall. A beef barbecue supper was served as the president introduced guests and members and the secretary called roll. Awards included Chapter Star Farmer Erwin Koether Star Greenhand Lucian Sekula Crop Farming Vernon Pruski Livestock Farming Calvin Albert Farm Safety Aloys Wiatrek Farm Electric. A film titled The Dynamic Career of Agriculture concluded the event with thanks to Reinhard's Dry Goods for sponsoring.

Floresville mourns as Mayor Edmond Franklin Woolsey Jr aged 68 dies suddenly at his home on May 5 1965 from a heart attack. Funeral held May 7 at Floresville Methodist Church with large turnout and citywide tributes. Woolsey served 14 years as mayor and was a longtime banker and civic leader.
The First City National Bank of Floresville elected Harry F. Woolsey as vice president to succeed his father E. F. Woolsey Sr., who died of a heart attack May 5. Delbert R. Traeger became cashier, succeeding Harry Woolsey, with R. A. Wiseman Jr. and J. P. Woolsey as assistant cashiers. Miss Johnnie E. Merchant of San Antonio is bank president.
Avie Teltschik, director at Mercedes High School Band, guided the ensemble to the Sweepstakes honor at a Brownsville event, marking the third consecutive year in the 3-A school category. The Floresville native has directed Mercedes for five years after prior work at Port Lavaca.
Last Saturday three baskets of flowers were delivered and placed beside the local post office. The baskets are linked to a missing group thought to be connected to a larger disappearance, with one basket possibly gone for seven months. The flowers were purchased last year by local merchants to beautify the area and their safety is hoped for this week.
Karnes City Livestock invites farmers and ranchers from Floresville to consign cattle and hogs for Wednesday sales at 12:30 PM. Watch for the auction company advertisement in local papers and notices.
Two travelers from Washington state arrived in San Antonio on a goodwill tour greeting Floresville leaders. Scott Prosser and Jane L. Martin carried greetings from Gov. Evans and officials to Gov. Connally and President Johnson. They brought Washington apples and almond candy and were presented with the Tacoma Chamber and Daffodil Festival greetings. Local Floresville figures welcomed them at the airport and planned accompanying tours and a spend-the-day party at Alamo Village.
Wilson County ASC reporters started performance checks for the 1965 crop year. Nine reporters, including Otis Ormond and Le Roy Kirchoff, will measure 779 feed grain farms 272 cotton farms 693 peanut farms and 72 soil bank farms. Total diverted feed grain acres reach 25 784. Farmers are urged to cooperate and provide assistance to reporters.
Brown's Service Center, newly named as an International Truck dealer for Floresville area, will host a formal showing this Saturday May 15 from 8 am to 6 pm. Free refreshments prizes and a grand prize with a 6 pm drawing will attract visitors who register. Barbara Jaeggi, "Miss Bonnie Mac" 1965 finalist from Floresville, will attend events at the shopping center and participate in local highlights.
The Saspamco Pipers baseball team will host Tony Wholesale Grocers of San Antonio at 8:00 PM Friday May 14 at Pipers Field SasPamco. On Sunday they face the Saspamco Red Sox at Red Sox field.
