Wilson County Cotton Allotments Are Received
Wilson County receives an allotment of 83,875 acres from the State Agricultural Conservation Committee. Fred C. Elliott says the allotment will be allocated to cotton farms countywide, with roughly 30 percent of tilled acreage in the southern part and about 11 percent in the northern part, subject to individual farm variations based on historic planted and diverted cotton. Some farms may fall below or exceed these percentages due to past years' acreages, with a few exceeding 80 percent or 11 percent because of a recent Congress amendment. Individual cotton-acreage allotments are being mailed to producers.

Floresville and Poth together shipped 361 carloads of onions by Thursday afternoon as weather threats caused a brief lull yesterday morning. Prices rose sharply since last week with growers paid 25 to 42 1 2 cents per bay depending on quality. Field run and at sales contributed to the totals, with the market active all day Wednesday but weaker late in the day. About 65 percent of the crop is harvested. 201 cars from Floresville and 160 from Poth had loaded by then, and Coastal Bend sections may ship this week.

Valentine Lichnovsky Found Dead Near Floresville
Valentine Lichnovsky age 53 was found deceased Friday afternoon hanging from a mesquite tree in the Pickett pasture near the old oil well southwest of town. He operated the Humble Service Station and had been in poor health but active until the day of his death. The funeral was held Saturday at Murray Funeral Home with S P I S T Lodge members conducting burial rites, Floresville Cemetery. Born August 8, 1884 in Neleovice Moravia to Joseph Lichnovsky and Barbara Svreek, he leaves a family story and a community memory.

Floresville Scout Rescues Girl From River
Floresville 12 year old Hudell Wright of Troop 114 rescued 10 year old Mary Louise Flores from drowning in the San Antonio river during a Sacred Heart School picnic. He dived, saved her by hair, administered artificial respiration, and kept her safe until help arrived. The school community praised the young Scout with thanks and congratulations.
