Well known young business man to head Oree for ensuing year. Five new directors named to board. Other officers are selected. Beaucation program to be continued.
Floresville residents witnessed the annual Floresville Chamber of Commerce meeting electing F N Bank official F Woolsey Jr as president succeeding Dr W Archer. Haley Warren and CG R Eschenburg chosen as 1st and 2nd vice presidents with Ed Franklin as treasurer. Work began this week on reconstructing the store building of Frank Vela a well known saddler and harness maker of Floresville whose premises were nearly wrecked a few weeks ago. The two story brick structure will house fixtures and stock after the fire damage.
The Floresville Luther League presented the play Blundering Billy at Floresville High School on Sunday evening May 8. Cast members Ezra Tuttle by Wm Goode Dorothy by Esther Pfeil Blundering Billy by Richard Bolt drew praise. Other roles included Leona Boenig Paul Wehmann Eric Goesch Ida Beutnagel Walter Schroeder. Despite amateur cast the production was highly praised and memorable. The group continues its motto plays that please and plans future entertainment.
R B Allen age seven, longtime Atascosa County resident from Campbellton, died at his home May 11 1982 at 10 30 p m after being kicked by a horse on his farm on his birthday. The death ends a short illness.

Final plans are made for the 14th District American Legion and Auxiliary convention to be held in Floresville on Sunday May 22 with about 300 legionnaires and families expected to attend. Officials from across Texas will attend, the Corpus Christi drum corps invited, and a noon barbecue at Wilson County Fair Grounds. Bobbitt of Laredo will speak in the Arcadia Theatre morning session. Next Friday's paper will publish the full program details.
The first carload of carrots from the county was shipped to Corpus Christi last Saturday. Richman and Samuels, long time buyers, note the shipment is part of a larger acreage contract. Aug Malcherts Path representative reported the carrots were sent in sacks and local growers anticipate a strong yield despite past setbacks. Patronize Home Town Merchants.
June Woolsey was practicing with a .22 rifle when a bullet struck near his heart but did not cause fatal injuries. The incident left him unharmed but shaken as emergency responders attended the scene.
Wilson County Democrats convened in Floresville to honor Hon. John Nance Garner of Uvalde with a ringing endorsement. About 50 delegates attended as the party discussed endorsements for Jed C. Adams and Clara Driscoll-Sevier for national posts and named delegates to the Texas State Convention in Houston.
Seale, Corpus Christi schools business manager, has been elected president of the Texas College of Arts and Industries at Kingsville to succeed the late Dr. O B Cousins. A Floresville native and University of Texas graduate, he will assume duties June 1.
United Gas Public Service Co moved into their new United Gas building near the Alamo area. The well furnished office welcomes customers and will handle gas appliances and related business. Miss Virginia Spruce has joined the company office in this city.
Hon. FE Douglas W. McGregor of Houston, a candidate for Congressman at large Place 3, will address Floresville and Wilson County voters at the courthouse tomorrow night at 8. He will be joined by his father Senator T. H. McGregor of Austin and Hon. John T. Smith. Tax matters and other issues of vital interest will be discussed. a cordial invitation extends to all voters, with ladies especially invited.
All onion growers in Floresville are urged to attend a crucial meeting at the fair grounds auditorium this Friday May 18 at 8 o'clock. Vital topics will be discussed and neighbors with onions planted should be informed promptly.
Goss Patterson was admitted to practice before the Federal bar by Judge DuVal West on Wednesday on a motion by Assistant District Attorney.
Mayor E. J. Blackert of Victoria spent last Saturday in Floresville meeting voters. He was accompanied by Mike Gray of Victoria. Blackert says he will wage a strenuous district campaign, while another article in the paper covers his administration of Victoria’s tax affairs where he serves as mayor.
Wilson County Fair Association directors scheduled an important meeting for Monday at five o clock. Officials will discuss fair operations and upcoming events, with attendance expected from key committee members and stakeholders.
