Distinguished Flying Cross for Floresville Lt Ximenes
First Lieutenant Vicente T. Ximenes of Floresville Texas received the Distinguished Flying Cross at a ceremony Saturday April 22 at San Angelo Army Air Field Bombardier School. His North African campaign service included over 50 missions ending with a mission over Rome. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Joe J Ximenes of Floresville.

Onion Shipments Floresville Poth Reach 200 Cars This Season
Floresville and Poth had shipped 62 carloads of Texas onions by Thursday noon, with Poth aiming for about 80 more and Floresville 50 to 60 more under good weather. The county total may rise to around 200 carloads as acreage shrank in Floresville Path. Early favorable conditions gave a solid start, but drought and stress reduced production and tonnage, though recent rains could lift late patches.

Floresville School Wins First Division At Kenedy Band Festival
Kenedy hosts its first band and chorus festival with Kenedy earning 53 points to edge Karnes City at 50 and Goliad third with 30. Floresville won first division in Concert under Fritz Teltschik, while Karnes City and Runge took second and third. Goliad’s a capella choir claimed top chorus and two ensembles, Kenedy led chorus, and Karnes City swept choral ensembles. Beeville entered twirling, directing, and Tom Beaversdorff led the clinic band alongside judges. Floresville contributed 15 members to the All Clinic Band, a nod to the program and Teltschik.

Blood drive honors fallen soldier in wartime notes
Mr and Mrs Joe Coy of Poth receive a telegram from Washington DC dated April 20 expressing the Secretary of War's regret that their son Private First Class Arthur Coy was killed in action on March 12 in Italy. The Adjutant General's letter promises follow up. The Coy family has two other sons serving: Pvt Alfonso Coy in New Guinea and Pfc Frank Coy at Camp Swift Texas.

Blood Donor Mobile Unit at Floresville Today
Sponsored by the American Red Cross the Blood Donor Mobile Unit will be in Floresville today from 10 a.m. to 3 45 p.m. Up to Thursday noon 205 Wilson County citizens had volunteered to donate a pint of blood for the soldier boys. Donors are to be here from various parts of the county and the Red Cross urges everyone to be on time. The unit is housed in the Floresville Methodist Church basement with ten doctors and nurses on duty. Mrs. E F Woolsey Jr chairs the Blood Donation Division, assisted by Mrs. J T Houston registration chairman and other volunteers. The Red Cross hopes all 200 who agreed to donate today will keep their appointment.
