Farm Bureau honors President Charles Freeman and family
The Wilson County Farm Bureau honored President Charles Freeman and his wife at a banquet on Friday April 28 naming Texas 1971 FHA Farm Family of the Year. J T Red Woodson presented the plaque. Freeman joined the Farm Bureau in the early 1960s, served on the Board of Directors since 1967, was Vice President for three years and now serves as President.

Two High School Girls Attend Bluebonnet Girls State
Two girls will attend American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State at Texas Lutheran College Seguin from June 13 to 23. Carole Ann Flieller, daughter of Jerome and (Mrs) Flieller, is sponsored by Alpha Beta Lambda and has held multiple leadership roles in 4-H and school clubs. Mary Cames, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cames, is named as an alternate. The program educates young women in citizenship by simulating city, county, and state government.

Peanut Producers Board Elects New Director and Two Re-Elected
Agriculture Commissioner John C. White certified a new member and two reelections to the Peanut Producers Board of Directors in a mail vote ending April. Steve Ridgway of Pleasanton won the at large seat to replace Ben Cook of May Texas, while Lyndell F. Coan and Billy Carruth, both of Leon, were reelected for six-year terms representing their districts. Hold-over members include J. O. Jackson, JY of Gorman, Dick Palmore of Dublin, J. N. Sheriff Asa Fuller Jr Leads Heavy Vote in County Races
In unofficial returns Sheriff Asa Fuller Jr received 3137 votes to 2505 for Joe Tackitt in a tight sheriff race. In Precinct 1 incumbent Joe Estrada led with 128 more than his rivals, while Precinct 3 saw Melvin Witte head to a runoff with Mark Johnson after narrowly beating Mills and Dudley. Lambeck and Wright lead the tax assessor collector race, Lambeck winning a large share but not clearing all opponents. Senator Wayne Connally leads county politics but faces a runoff with Hobby of Houston on June 3.
