Wilson County Scholastics Benefit From Motor Taxes
Austin May 10 The Texas motor transportation industry contributed to Wilson County education with 152,148 for 4,208 scholastics and funded highway construction with 21,713 in special taxes. The industry’s total special tax contribution reached 89,000,000, up ten million from the prior year, from gasoline and license fees paid by over 280,000 motor trucks and buses. This excludes federal and regular state taxes.

Sailors Rob Motorist After Luring Heavily on King's Highway
Ted McDaniel of Floresville was struck and robbed by two sailors after befriending them Saturday. He reported being picked up at a street, threatened, and beaten near King's Highway. he reached the police station at 2 a.m. A later report said the sailors offered a car for sale to a cafe operator for 75 dollars and were jailed at Lockhart. McDaniel had facial injuries but declined charges. He is the son of Mrs. John H. McDaniel.

Auto Wreck Near Stockdale Leaves Several Injured
A Tuesday night auto crash on Route 1 between Stockdale and Nixon involved Anton Dugie and Geo Holcombe. Holcombe suffered a scalp wound while Leon Dugie sustained a minor facial injury. Both cars were badly damaged. the other vehicle’s occupant was uninjured.

His mother and grandmother Mrs Lee Matlock went to San Antonio to be with him soon as advised of the incident. His many friends here will be glad to know that he was not seriously hurt and is reported much better. He has been employed in San Antonio for some time.

Floresville Volunteer Fire Dept Holds May Monthly Meeting
The Floresville Volunteer Fire Department held its regular monthly meeting at the Fire Station on May 6 with 25 members present. New members John Wallis Pfeil and Benard Baumann were welcomed. A committee led by E A Flieller E L Wildman and H A Glenewinkel was formed to pursue better equipment. Herman Koch replaces Wilbert Teltschik as caretaker for two months. Pfeil and Baumann offered to attach a steel ladder to the wash rack. Refreshments followed the adjournment.

Floresville Elder H F Ellinghausen Dies After 46 Years County Resident
H F Ellinghausen age 82 years 5 months 17 days died at son W J Ellinghausen Floresville Friday May 3 after long illness. Founding Flores Lutheran Church farmer and community pioneer, services held at First Lutheran Church Floresville with burial in Floresville Cemetery. Survivors include son, several relatives. he broke a hip in 1942 storm and lived largely with his son and daughter-in-law.

Elizabeth Tatum, 71, died in a San Antonio hospital after illness. Her funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at Sutherland Springs with Rev. W A Butler of Stockdale Baptists Church officiating. Survivors include four daughters, a brother in Del Rio, and three sisters in Arizona. The family had long ties to the area.

Nixon May 7 John Thomas 34 was found in a roadside ditch where he had lain since being struck by a car Tuesday. He died or is in critical condition awaiting details from authorities. Police cordon off the scene as investigators review tracks and witness statements.
