Poth Ships First Onions Last Tuesday Night
Poth Texas May 8 the first car load of onions for the 1935 season was shipped here yesterday. The yield is lighter than hoped but shipments are expected to exceed last season’s 836 carloads. This marks the eighth year onions have been grown here and locals see it as a leading money crop. Floresville loaded its first shipment of 1985 onions Wednesday and yesterday, three cars went out at 3 pm. John Morris Jr of Harlingen shipped them for several buyers here. They were billed to St Louis but may be diverted en route. Two more cars were to be loaded yesterday for sale today. County onions are praised for quality and shippers. Wilson county onions appear popular among buyers and demand is strong.
