Jaycees appeal to Floresville residents to cooperate in the final two days of Spring Clean-Up Paint-Up and Fix-Up Week. Citizens are urged to clear trash, cut weeds, and tidy vacant lots to beautify the town and protect health. Fire safety reminders warn against DIY gas and electrical repairs and caution against using gasoline or benzine for cleaning due to fire risk.
The district court moved April tax suits to the next term of court. The State vs George Pridemore for theft was delayed to May 8 due to witness business. Several uncontested cases were disposed of and The State of Texas vs Thomas J. Dix was postponed pending the defendant’s recovery from illness. The May 8 Pridemore trial was continued to the next term because of dine s of ny is witness. Jury commissioners were appointed to select jurors.
A lightning bolt struck the home of Mrs. Lela Barnes on the highway just east of the town during a torrential storm last Monday night at about 7 45 pm. The frame dwelling and furnishings were damaged but heavy rain helped prevent spread. The Floresville Fire Department battled the blaze and extinguished the flames.
The funeral of E. W. Herrington, 81, prominent San Antonio and Floresville businessman, was held at Floresville Methodist Church after a Wednesday death. Dr. S. L. Batchelor officiated, praising him as a Southern Christian gentleman. Interment in Floresville Cemetery followed. Pallbearers included L. H. Mitchell, S. W. Teas, C. Hawkins, J. C. Williams, John Taylor, and Maxey Hart.
J. S. Oxford, Methodist missionary from Japan, spoke Sunday evening at First Methodist Church to combined congregations of the Methodist and Baptist Churches. For over 30 years he led Palmore Institute in Kobe and managed the Methodist Mission in Japan. He returned to the United States aboard the U S President Taft arriving in Los Angeles on April 15 as missionary boards canceled overseas postings due to the international crisis.
Porter Loring announces the postponement of the Boy Scout Circus at Foster Stadium San Antonio due to a boy’s health concerns. Four thousand seven hundred seventy nine Scouts Cubs and Leaders from fifteen Alamo Area counties will participate with fifteen motor caravans and police escorts planned to parade into the stadium.
Floresville Parent-Teacher Association hosts the annual May Fete at 8:00 PM in the high school auditorium. Queen Louise Wright and King Robert Stevens head a court of over 75 students with local talent and decorations. Admission is 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for students.
In Austin on May 6 Lyndon Johnson began his campaign for the U.S. Senate with a whirl of visits across the state to rally supporters. The tour emphasized unity behind President Roosevelt amid national concerns and party backing.
A. D. Spring, District State Game Warden from Seguin, visiting Floresville, delivered a department order to the Chronicle Journal. The notice states that game wardens should follow the department's practice of issuing up-sheet parts and related procedures for deer game.
Technical staff from the Soil Conservation Service at Camp Rich ard M. Kleberg visited Floresville and Sequin to study local projects from the camp and assess practices and effects. They consulted landowners, local leaders, and government colleagues to identify the most practical operations and note mistakes for future improvement. The party included Dick Stanford, Harry Armstrong, W. C. Marshall Jr., H. J. Caulfield, and J. M. Patton.
About 25 automobiles and 75 to 100 Wilson County residents attended a Lyndon Johnson rally in San Marcos last Saturday night. The event featured delegations from Path, Fairview, Floresville, Stockdale, Pandora, La Vernia, Sutherland Springs, and more as Johnson opened his Senate campaign.
Fred Lawrence McKenzie 56 a longtime county resident and later of Uvalde died Wednesday morning May 7 1941 at a San Antonio hospital after a long illness. Religious rites were held at Hagy McCollum Murray chapel and Dr S L Batchelor led the service. Buried in Uvalde with many old friends from Floresville and surrounding counties attending. He was born May 7 1885 in Fairview the son of J B McKenzie a pioneer. He married Lee in 1905.

J E Swift longtime Wilson County Superintendent of Schools died Monday May 5 1941 at 6 30 A M after a long illness. Appointed August 12 1906 he held the office for nearly 34 years with only three opponents and endured health setbacks including Mayo Brothers surgery. Funeral services conducted by Rev Charles B Diltz drew a large crowd with teachers and students among those paying respects at Murray Funeral Home.

Five hundred visiting Masons from Beeville Lodge No 261 hosted District No 38 lodges on Tuesday night for an official visit by Grand Master S B Canty Jr of Fort Worth. He was accompanied by Past Grand Master Leemeserood of Waco.
