Floresville High School students Leyla Aranda Monica Zuniga Devin Peck and Kristi Beauchamp represented their school and Texas at the national BPA leadership conference in Cincinnati Ohio April 29 to May 3 About 3000 secondary students from across the US attended The three national winners were Monica Zuniga honorable mention in employment skills Devin Peck honorable mention in data assistant using spreadsheet and database applications and Kristi Beauchamp sixth place in the administrative assistant contest using Word Perfect and office skills Kristi is a junior and the others are seniors or juniors Their sponsor Mrs Connie Turner accompanied them Highlights included a Reds Cubs game and several Cincinnati sites with speakers workshops events and awards ceremonies

Floresville voters elected Raymond M. Ramirez as mayor over incumbent Roy Sanchez by 997 to 688. In Place 2 Alderman Daniel Tejada was re-elected 927 to 747 over Stacy Huna. Place 1 saw Tony Ximenez win with 683 votes, defeating Daniel Castillo and Elline Lange Hummel. Incumbents were re-elected in several school and city seats. All vote counts are unofficial.

Short Turn Causes Thursday Morning Collision
A two vehicle collision last Thursday morning in Stockdale involving a Wilson County Sheriff's Office deputy caused no injuries. Deputy James Stewart, 58, of Stockdale, traveling east on Sample Street, in a 1986 Nissan pickup, collided with a 1979 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 17 year old Quarles of adjoining parish. Quarles was attempting a left turn.
