The neighboring city Stockdale plans a large celebration for the unveiling of a new unit of Memorial Be Be to be awarded on June 25. Weather forecasts are anticipated for the day. Local residents were preparing by arranging plates of ration extensions and coordinating with officials this week.
The Chronicle Journal notes three candidates for the July Democratic primary in Wilson County. J E Swift seeks re election as county superintendent of schools. J L Tackitt of Calaveras runs for County Commissioner Precinct No 1. Chas Bohmann of Denhawken seeks County Commissioner Precinct No 4.
The article warns of cutworms and grasshoppers harming cotton and other crops. It outlines a poison mix using sorghum molasses, lemons, and water added to bran, prepared in stages, to be applied to the mixture and spread over affected fields.
Persistent rain has drenched Floresville with multiple showers since last Saturday May 1. Total rainfall recorded through that day exceeded 3 inches with lighter showers and two heavy downpours. Measured amounts include 2.09 inches on May 1 and 1.47 inches on Wednesday afternoon.
Austin May 5 John Cage of the State Highway Commission said a final maintenance plan will likely not be decided before July 1 as contracts expire and the budget for the new quarter is revised. He noted counties may bid to contract maintenance and that details require legal review.
District Court adjourned after one of the busiest terms in recent years. Willie Podriguez Jr. was found guilty of murder in the Zerda case and sentenced to seven years. Peter Szalwinski faced assault with intent to murder charges. trial concluded. The jury, after deliberating under a ten to two split, was discharged following a failed verdict.
The Floresville public school observes Health Week with PTA oversight. Each student received a weight certificate and health chart, then underwent physician, dentist, and optometrist exams. Local doctors provided services free, with thanks to Drs. Blake Oxford Sparks Shedden and Manning.
Floresville high school plans its annual commencement on Monday evening May 24 with Wa ES McIntosh San Antonio Light managing editor delivering the address. The well known editor, formerly of Fort Worth, will speak to graduates and attendees at the Floresville Methodist Church. Del Rio visitor, a former Wilson county resident, spent Wednesday and Thursday here before heading to Stockdale for the celebration.
Jesse Yelvington pastor of Baulc Temple in San Antonio received the invitation to preach the baccalaureate sermon for Floresville High School’s graduating class. The May 23 service at the Methodist church is expected to draw a large Floresville crowd. Yelvington is well known to Wilson County residents and returns to his home county for the appearance. S. W. Teas Mrs Lee McDaniel and Miss Anna Laura McDaniel visited in San Antonio Tuesday.
The Floresville Civic Club meets today at 4 o clock in the City Hall. All members and those interested in the Club’s work are urged to attend as plans for bettering the town are under way. Subscribers are urged to subscribe for the home paper.
A special Mothers Day program is planned at the Methodist church with a chair service at 7 45. An additional program will occur during the regular church service. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend these services.
