Farmers are urged that CAP signup remains open while Wheat, Feed Grain and Upland Cotton signups have closed. CAP suits those seeking to shift from surplus crops or retire gradually, continue farming locally, work off-farm, or pursue other local jobs. Ed Reed reports 40 Wilson County operators applied and 17 agreements signed.

President Johnson surprised a Polish American group from Panna Maria at the White House to mark Poland's millennium. The visitors received a $25,000 mosaic of the Black Madonna, later entrusted to the town for display. The town, Texas oldest Polish settlement, traces its roots to 1854 settlers from Upper Silesia.
J J Rohan will take over as Poth Texas school superintendent July 1 1966, succeeding Jack Lane who retired. He has nine years as La Vernia superintendent and a background from San Marcos SWTS with degrees Bachelors and Masters. Rohan and Eunice have two daughters, Gerry and Sylvia Ann.
The Democratic Executive Committee met in the Commissioners Courtroom on May 3, 1966. County Chairman D A McKenzie called the meeting to order with members listed including Sam Fore Jr and E B Deason. A resolution for Precinct conventions was read and adopted by acclimation, with copies distributed to chairs as general election procedures were discussed.
April featured 3.95 inches of rainfall across days including Sunday April 3 with 92 degrees and the cool April 6 reading of 34 degrees. Average high 83 and low 51. Floresville saw 1.50 inches over the past weekend with light rain Tuesday into Wednesday showers. Al Teltschik served as Official Observer.
A nursery school will be conducted by the Fiores ville High School Homemaking Department from May 9 to 13, daily 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Free of charge, for children four years old or over. Enrollment limited to twenty. contact Mrs Mildred Millikin or Mrs Glynn Holstein at the High School by Friday May 6. First come, first served.
The Floresville Band Parents Club presents the annual May Fete on Friday May 6 1966 at 7 30 p m in Wiley Seale Auditorium Miss Sandra Talley will reign as Queen of the Court of Spring Melodies The public is invited to attend this colorful pageant.
The Poth Public Schools will present in the formal concert the Poth Beginning Band the Junior High School Band and the Poth High School Band at the Poth School gymnasium Thursday May 12 at 8 15 p.m. Director Ted C Kelly invites the general public to attend and enjoy a varied program.
Mr and Mrs Sam Fore Jr attended the annual meeting last Sunday at Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation where Mr Fore has served as a director for several years.
Highway Patrol investigator Buford Lyon reports a collision between a 1966 Chevrolet Pickup driven by Jesse Gordon and a 1965 Chevrolet Sedan driven by J H Ware at a blind dirt road intersection three miles south of Stockdale off FM 537. The mishap occurred around 11 am on Saturday April 30. Gordon had minor cuts. Ware had minor cuts and his wife suffered a broken leg. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
Mr Fred Sickenius, a Karnes City hospital patient, was discharged home last Thursday after suffering fractured ribs when his gloved hand was caught in farm implements unloaded from a truck. He fell and sustained painful injuries.
Floresville Elementary and the Floresville ISD announce registration for first grade entrants. Dates May 9 10 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Intermediate Building A and 4th Street. Bring birth or baptismal certificates.
County Clerk Richard Boll reported 194 absentee ballots recorded by 5 p.m. Tuesday May 3, the closing period for absentee voting. He noted several absentee request forms were mailed.
The Poth High School band won first place in the Goliad County Fair Parade held in Gol iad Texas on April 23. Drum Major Kathy Repka led a praised performance with a new marching step and music.
The Board of Trustees of the Poth Consolidated Independent School District invites patrons and friends of Supt Jack Lane to an Appreciation Party in his honor on Sunday May 8 from 7 00 to 9 00 p m at the Poth School Gym. Lane retires June 30 after 33 years with the district.
