State Superintendent Woods attends Floresville High School pageant tonight at 8:00 in the auditorium. Forty pupils perform Court of the Sleeping Beauty with a Silver Spider Web backdrop. PTA sponsors to furnish the new home economics cottage. Admission 15 cents students 25 cents adults.
Wilson County is among 27 Southwest Texas counties approved by the Railroad Commission in San Antonio. Emergency reduced livestock feed freight rates take effect May 6 at 6.23 percent of the full rate. Wilson County sent 14 delegates, including agricultural reps, farmers, ranchers, the county agent and business leaders, for information through the county agent’s office.
Floresville friends express sympathy for H. T. Graham as his brother Charles Porter Graham dies in Venice California. Services were held April 22 at Grace Chapel with Dr Herbert Booth Smith officiating and burial at Inglewood Memorial Park Venice California. Surviving are Mrs Ollie Graham two daughters Mrs S E Peck and Mrs Bush Christian two sons Fred and Mark Graham all of California.
A large crowd gathered Sunday afternoon at 2 30 for the closing exercises of the Three Oaks School in Wilson County. The community praised the school and its agricultural region while honoring graduates and speakers during the commencement program.
The American Legion held a meeting last Friday night with three prominent speakers. George C. Betts of Austin served as State Service Officer. A O Willman of San Antonio was Assistant State Service Officer. Pete Morrison of Freer, 14th District Commander, addressed the gathering as the post grows in membership and interest. An effort is underway to secure another state leader and speaker for the meeting on Monday May 15.
Palace Drug Store changes hands after years under the late A. D. ownership, with new owner taking over as the business transitions from its longtime leadership. The notice notes a shift in management and the store continues operations under the new arrangement.
Members of the Wilson County Agricultural Association and farmers plan a meeting tomorrow Saturday May 6 at 3 pm in the district courtroom Floresville to discuss drouth relief. They vote to meet every second Saturday during the emergency to address losses and co operate. The note also mentions a freight rate cut approved by the Railroad Commission on carload shipments of livestock feed to Wilson and 26 other areas.
Gov. W. Lee O'Daniel signed a proclamation starting machinery for organization under the soil conservation law. Commissioners' courts directed to call precinct conventions of landowners May 15 to select a representative for each precinct. In each county four precinct picks will choose one of their number. Telegrams from United States Senator Tom Connally and Congressman Richard M Kleberg in Washington say the Works Progress Administration approved an allotment of 50 258 dollars to reconstruct and improve county owned roads in Wilson County The project is now eligible for operation under the State Works Progress Administration administrator The description notes reconstruction and improvement including widening clearing grubbing surfacing and drainage to address traffic hazards
The primer grades under Mrs. W D Hunter staged a Spring pageant The Awakening of Spring at Floresville High School auditorium on Friday Also involved were Pleasanton actiats and a training program The children wore colorful costumes portraying birds and flowers with Ralph Jentsch as herald and Jimmie McDaniel as messenger The program featured readings by Miss Carolyn Mitchell and dances by Madeline Page Houston and Miss Canales of Pleasanton Accompaniment on piano by Mrs Canales of Pleasanton The crowd enjoyed a well presented show with notable performances by Doris Miller Betty Joan Barnes Kathleen Anh Carnes Martha Carolyn Schultz Carolyn Donaho and others
Floresville Baptist Church plans an open house next Thursday following a two week revival that closed April 23. Pastor Rev W E McGraw led the sermons and presided over 17 additions, eight by baptism and ten by letter, praised for earnest effort and success. Music was provided by A D Walter and a large youth choir, with broad cooperation from nearby churches.
A fire about 9:00 Monday night caused considerable stock damage at W. H. Cale's store known as Gale's Store in the Blake building beside the former City National Bank. The blaze started in the rear and burned for some time. The fire was noticed by Fritz Teltschik and the White House Cafe owner, who smelled smoke but it took a while to locate the flames. The article also covers the Floresville school district dedicating a new Martha Eschenburg Home Economics Cottage on May 11 with music, remarks by State Superintendent L. A. Woods, and open house. the project cost about $8,000 and was funded by R. L. Eschenburg and local support.
About 25 Floresville parents and 4-H members attended a countywide program at Path High School auditorium last Saturday night. Floresville’s band under Fritz Teltschik excelled while 4-H girls demonstrated clothing and grooming. Clubs from Center Point Path Three Oaks Sunnyside and Wilson County presented plays, songs, and readings to raise funds for transportation costs.
D W Hicks formerly assistant county agent for Wilson County was chosen by the Bexar County Commissioners Court to serve as assistant county agent for Bexar County starting May 15. He will replace Homer Lemburg who resigns effective May 15 to seek private employment.
