Floresville Memorial Hospital observes National Hospital Week May 6 to 12 with the Voluntary Effort to Contain Health Care Costs VE coalition efforts. Activities include Sisters Day May 6 Employees Day May 8 Doctor Day May 9 Volunteer Day May 10 Patient Day May 11 and community involvement.
Baumann's Grocery and Hardware in Poth completed interior remodeling begun in January. The floor was retiled and a large soda water display area added while the hardware section gained a dedicated space. Coowner Michael Baumann said the project finished last week after reworking stock and walls, making shopping more convenient and showcasing the updated hardware department. Local customers were thanked for their patience during renovations.
Participants gather Sunday May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Courthouse on Third Street to register for the Cystic Fibrosis Jog-A-Thon. The race runs from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with prizes for most miles, most sponsors, most money raised, oldest and youngest runners. Local Floresville contributors include Jo Ann's Beauty Salon and Western Auto Associate Store Floresville. Forty-five percent stays in the Houston Dallas Austin San Antonio area for treatment, fifty-five percent funds CF research. Seek sponsors now to join the event.
Paula Wiemers of Stockdale seven and a half months pregnant was shot in the foot during a Fiesta parade in San Antonio. Her husband Roger, a Church of Christ minister, their infant son, in‑laws, sister‑in‑law, and a friend were with her when shotgun blasts from a Recreational Vehicle began a chaotic Shootout. Paula and her sister‑in‑law were treated. Paula required crutches and will carry shotgun pellets in her foot. An unknown man aided Paula to safety. authorities evacuated the crowd and the family persevered amid the chaos.
Wilson County hosts an Arts and Crafts Show and Sale starting 10:00 am Friday May 4 at the Wilson County Courthouse. The event features gift possibilities for Mothers birthdays and other special occasions with items such as silk flowers. Jewel-Poth High School presents the Vale dictorian, Selutatorian, and honor students for the 1979 Graduating Class.
