Voters are urged to exercise their voting privilege on Saturday May 3 in the County and State Democratic Primary. Absentee voting was heavy and closed April 29 at the Wilson County Clerk’s office. A sample ballot is published for voter use.
Susan's Fabrics at Plaza Shopping Center will close from Wednesday April 30 through Sunday May 4 for relocation. The store will reopen at its new address 1612 C Street on Monday May 5 with further information to follow.
The pool conducts a life saving course each May and issues a Red Cross Certificate upon completion. The 1986 course runs May 19 to May 22 with enrollment limited to 15. Call City Hall at 393-3105 to enroll. deadline May 13 or until full.
Poth ISD announces four year old Pre-K registration May 5 to May 9 at Poth Elementary from 8 00 to 3 30 daily for the 1986 87 year. Eligibility requires age four by September 1 1986 and either language needs or family income at or below state standards. Enrollment depends on at least 15 eligible students. half day sessions only. no transportation provided. Contact Tim Braniff or Patrick Pra for details.
The East Central Community Education Department offers GED testing May 5 to May 8, 1986 at East High School Room 702 starting at 6 30 p m. Students should attend the session prepared for exam administration.
Wilson County Retired Teachers will meet May 7 1986 at 11 30 a.m. at Stockdale Methodist Church for a covered dish lunch. Please attend this event.
The public is invited to a free fashion show on Friday May 2 at 5 30 p m on the Courthouse Lawn. 4-H girls and boys ages 9 through 18 who took part in the county 4-H Fashion Show or Clothing Projects will model garments they made this and last year. The event runs during the Arts and Crafts May Fair and invites community support.
The Texas Agricultural Extension Service joins Wilson County agencies in a May observance of Soil and Water Stewardship Week with the theme Conservation's New Frontiers. County Extension Agent Vernor E. Rippert announces materials are distributed to clergy, leaders, and organizations to promote stewardship of soil and water resources.
Floresville High School sent eight students to nine regional contests with Debra Palitza earning second in Headline Writing and Severo Garza taking third in Shorthand. The duo will represent FHS in the State Literary Contests at the University of Texas in Austin on May 9 and 10, after strong regional showings across journalism and shorthand events.
Wilson County Emergency Management Agency hosts the second part of Tactical Hazardous Material Spill Seminars on May 5 1986 for initial responders and interested locals. Hazardous materials control officer Herb Bart of Southern Pacific Transportation Company will lead two three hour sessions at Floresville Volunteer Fire Department. First session 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. second session follows.
Fort Worth Texas Christian University announces the signing of Janice Dziuk of Poth Texas to a national letter of intent for the 1986 87 season. The 6 1 junior averaged 23 points 15 2 rebounds and four assists per game as a senior at Poth High School guiding the team to a 29 3 record and Region IV finals. Dziuk earned four year letters in basketball four time all district and class AA all state. She also lettered in volleyball tennis and track and was a four year member of the National Honor Society.
