Wilson County wage committee and relief board convene Tuesday to discuss labor standards under the new federal act taking effect April 2. The meeting covers compliance with state needs, natural requirements, and farm labor availability.
Wilson County Wage Committee met March 27 with the Relief Board to set labor wage rates for the new Work Relief Program starting April 2. The panel, including Eschenburg Houck Schneider Poth Woods, recommended pay scales for common and skilled labor and noted lower prevailing rural wages and direct National Re-employment Service hiring options. John J. Edds reported the 1938 Wilson county ginnings totaled 7,057 bales, down from 8,698, with state totals 4,307,888 for 1932 against 4,220,096 for 1933.
Floresville Independent School District voters will choose trustees Saturday April 7 at city hall. Incumbents B Carr L Cale Sr and W H Houston are seeking re election with no announced opposition. D Seale will preside as election judge with P Neubauer and J M Tipton as associate judges.
Tax Collector G A Hil urges auto and truck owners to secure new 1934 license plates by Saturday March 31 to avoid a 20 percent penalty after April 1. Officers may fine drivers with old plates starting Monday.

The A I College Male Chorus of the Texas College of Arts and Industries at Kingsville, directed by Prof. Paul Riley, gave a concert at Floresville High School auditorium on Friday evening to a crowd of over 400, one of the largest for such a program in this city. The students arrived from Stockdale and were greeted by local citizens who hosted them overnight, with numerous Floresville residents extending hospitality.
The Floresville National Farm Loan Association closed eleven farm loans in one day on Friday March 23. The total value reached 18800 dollars aiding Wilson county farmers as the Land Bank system processes a heavy volume of applications with smoother dispatch.
Dick J. Robberts of Path seeks Wilson County sheriffship after a prior failed primary bid two years ago. He has never held office but served as deputy sheriff and ranger, is son in law of Path mayor, and is a livestock businessman. Allison Burgess and Frank Hamilton were arrested in San Antonio and brought to Atascosa County on charges of stealing an automobile from contractor F E Kelly. The recovered car was undamaged. Sheriff Carnes and local deputies aided by San Antonio detectives secured confessions and noted previous garage robbery links from Pleasanton. Floresville prepares to host the Fifth District Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers with 500 delegates, officials, and hospitality plans for April 11 at Floresville High School.
Adjutant A. Shultz visiting San Antonio and Bexar counties led preparations for the annual Salvation Army campaign in Wilson County set for Thursday, April 5. Funds aid general Salvation Army work for residents and transients after thorough investigations, with emphasis on aiding only truly needy cases. The public is urged to respond generously to the April 5 drive.
