City crews install an ornamental seven foot steel fence around three concrete storage tanks and pump house near the ice house. The 125 by 118 foot enclosure includes two locked gates and barbed wire atop, improving the waterworks and water quality.
Final government cotton report shows Wilson county gins had 10 763 bales ginned by March 20 1928 for the 1927 season. Last year at the same date 20 677 bales were ginned. Awards list Floresville stockdale Midway and Fairview area students with first second and third places in Class A B and junior divisions across schools including Floresville Stockdale Pandora and Fairview with names like Mattie B. Timmerman Leona Schmidt Evelyn Waldie Annie Aherns Satie Lue Adams Zelma Hayden Martha Neill Cecilia Jasek and Eula Flint. Continued on last page.
Presiding Elder of San Antonio conducts revival services inviting all church members. The meeting runs Wednesday night through Sunday with preaching by Dr. Sessions and social events for attendees. Dr. Sessions has ties to Floresville and is esteemed by local friends.
A shooting at the R L L Eschenburg store in Plac on Sunday left a young Mexican man wounded in the chest. Alleges a second assailant fired at Esteven Leal Jr but missed. A 38 caliber pistol is said to have been used. Cagillo is hospitalized but not in serious condition. Juan Diego Gonzalen was arrested and jailed, later facing two assault to murder charges. He waived examination and is on $500 bond per case awaiting grand jury action.
Floresville High School presented eleven members of the 1927 regular football squad with engraved gold footballs donated by the athletic fund. Coach Jeron o Irwin and AL Post ton supported the ceremony as fans purchased balls for the city’s fund.
A 1816 Mississippi river wedding near Natches joins Dr James Long and Miss Jane Wilkinson daughter of Judge Wilkinson a prominent land and slave owner. The union linked two kindred spirits and influenced Texas history as described in the Monthly Magazine on the 6th.
Floresville friends of Tony Lackey report the Floresville High School graduate has been named assistant manager at the Princess Theatre in San Antonio. He began as an usher, quickly rose to superintendent of service, and earned the promotion just days ago. He trained under Carl Johnson at the Pershing Theatre during school years.
The newly formed Wilson County Dairy Association invites dairymen to an important meeting at the fair ground auditorium on Thursday night April 5 at 8 o clock sharp. A competent man will conduct a testing program and explain work in detail. Other matters of great interest to dairymen will be discussed. All interested in dairying or the new organization are invited to attend.
Heavy hail damaged crops near Sutherland Springs Texas as a storm moved in Friday. Ground lay white with hail four to six inches deep over several square miles. Bert Fuller, his wife and young son were visiting Kenedy. they plan to move to San Antonio while Mr. Fuller starts a Frost position.
More than 60 representatives from 16 South Texas cities met at the Gunter Hotel to form the South Texas Good Roads Association. Otto Kraege of Yorktown was elected first president. Leopold Morris became second vice president. The group adopted a constitution and created an executive committee to serve until the next annual meeting, with members from Kenedy, Victoria, Pearsall, Mathis, Floresville, Brownsville, and Laredo. Membership costs include $25 director level and $4 per year for others. towns may join via chambers of commerce or direct membership.
A flood of one dollar campaign buttons reaches Texas towns to aid convention expenses. Key figures include County Judge C Be bought and Mayor S W Houston, with prospects of future sales across San Antonio Victoria Kenedy and Cuero. The first meeting is set for April 16 at the Hotel.
Karnes City real estate man and former county official Robert G. Roebuck said he is impressed with the feeding test led by County Agent E. D. Beck at Wilson County fair grounds. Beck has 25 baby beef calves on self-feeders for about 60 days. Roebuck plans to visit soon to obtain complete data for possible use on his Karnes City property. The experiment is sponsored by the Fair Association and the Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Trindad Valdez, aged, died Monday night at the home of her daughter three miles south. The report notes her age and place, with the event occurring at a domestic residence in a rural area.
