Daniel H. Rodriguez announces candidacy for reelection to Place V on the Floresville City Council on April 7 1979. He cites eight years of service, a balanced budget, and no added burden to citizens, praising the council as progressive. Paid political advertisement.
Miss Jewel Westermann lost vision briefly and drove into a deep roadside ditch near the Smith Butane Co. in Floresville. The car turned over but no glass broke, though she suffered bruises and two banana plants were lost. She credited the Lord with riding with her.
Victoria Antique Auto Club departs April 7 for cross country to Panna Maria lunch then tour by Erwin starting large engines before heading to New Braunfels. May 20 Alamo A Club of San Antonio caravan to Ole Tic Toc Black Hill with open house exhibitions of antique autos tractors engines and machinery inviting locals to view one of a kind display. Last week visitors were Mr and Mrs Arthur Nelson of Salix Iowa.
Bonnie Jane Skrobarczyk Heep announces candidacy for Place 1 on the Poth Independent School District school board. She notes she has left her business but remains a mother with two children in the district and seeks to address concerns of mothers in education and school operations.
Nan Brumlow, a junior majoring in Biology, Chemistry and Medical Technology, was named Presidential Scholar at Our Lady of the Lake University Honors Day Convocation on March 20. She earned Alpha Chi membership for the top ten percent and was listed in Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities.
A meeting of the Friends of the Library is scheduled for April 4 1979 at 4500 Pvt at the Library A program on Self Breast Examination will be presented with hopes of good attendance
Sacred Heart School at 1007 Trail Street is pre-registering students in grades 2 through 8 for the 1979-80 school year. Registration packets are available in the school office. call 393 2117 for more information. The program offers individualized instruction with small classes and open facilities to all, regardless of race creed or national origin.
The Wilson County 4 H Rifle Team will compete in an Invitational Rifle Match on Saturday March 31 1979 at the Scott Ranch in Beeville Texas at 8 am. Representing Wilson County will be a senior team. Sandra Martinez, a Charlene's Angel and Sacred Heart School Ast grader, is pictured with two trophies from a twirling meet. She has traveled to Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and Austin, earning nine medals and seven trophies and plans to compete further aiming to be a champion. She is the seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Nash Martinez, Jr of Flo.
Members of Post and Auxiliaries 8555 will meet at 7 30. Case vs day and election of officers for both ladies and men on the same night. Refreshments will be served.
The Wilson County Childrens Service Board donated material to the Wilson County Library creating a shelf with over 111 items on family life topics. It aims to aid parents teachers students and others seeking help with personal or family problems. The collection covers discipline adoption child welfare laws child development and related social issues among others.
The Blue Bonnet Base ball League starts its 1979 season on Sunday April 1 with eight teams in the South Zone after the Path Orioles leave. Sunday games begin at 3:00 p.m. and rain postponements shift night games to 7:30 p.m. The Southwest Baseball Umpires Assn will officiate. Teams listed include Pleasanton Colts Nixon All-Stars Floresville Eagles Floresville Tigers Poth Chargers Palm Park Cubs Kenedy Royals and Poth Orioles. Managers and officials named with Lupe Alvarado Jesse Benavidez Raymond Ramirez Joe Tejada and Phil Ramirez among them.
Final plans for the Jaycee City Wide Easter Egg Hunt set for Saturday April 14 at 2 PM on the Hospital grounds G Street. Three age groups 1 3 4 6 and 7 8 years, with two specially marked eggs in each group to determine prize winners. Free admission and all kids aged 1 8 invited to participate.

Southwest General Hospital, a 166 bed acute care facility at 7400 Barlite off S W Military Drive, will officially open May 8 1979. The four operating rooms a 100000 square foot three story building houses eight ER rooms an ICU and a CCU with 24 hour emergency medical staff and support services.
Carolyn Gaona a three year old twirler has competed since September in Austin Corpus Christi and Kirby earning nine first place trophies four medals and two second place awards She performs with Charlene's Angels Twirling team and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Gaona of
Wendell Seller, a director of the Texas Peanut Producers Board, and his wife Anne were noted at the National Peak gathering. The attendance highlights ongoing industry involvement and collaboration among peanut producers at a national level.
