The James H Matthews family of Karnes County and Route 2 Kenedy Texas won the 1972 Texas Farmers Home Administration Farm Family of the Year Award announced by J Lynn Futch State Director in Temple They run a 224 acre dairy operation ten miles from Kenedy with 68 milking cows and 32 replacements Since starting FHA financing in 1967 they have built a successful family dairy farm and active rural leadership The state winner advances to the national award in Washington DC in April where the national winner will be honored
Debra Bludau Honored by DAR at State Meet
Sixteen senior high girls from across the state were honored by the Alamo Chapter DAR at their March 8 meeting for dependability service cooperation leadership and patriotism. Each received a certificate and a gold God Citizen medal. The program also previews a 4-H Favorite Food Show on March 31 at Floresville Jaycee Hall with judging from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and tea with awards to follow.
Pickup Clips Two Utility Poles At Poth
A 1969 Ford pickup driven by Joe Perez Ledesma of San Antonio swerved to miss a dog in Poth Texas at 6 20 am Monday March 26. The vehicle jumped a curb and struck two utility poles and a road sign, totaling the truck. Ledesma age 19 was treated at Memorial Hospital Floresville. his father sustained facial cuts and bruises and was treated and released. Investigating officers were Patrolman V L Martin and Deputy Sheriff Alvin Moczygemba.

Two South Texas Students Win Piper Scholar Grants
Two South Texas high school students, Troy R. Caperton of Stockdale and Beverly Jenschke of Fredericksburg, were among 15 statewide Piper Scholars sharing $80,000 in college scholarships awarded in 1973 by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. Caperton will study architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, son of Laverne Caperton. Jenschke, daughter of James and Mrs. Jenschke, will study accounting at Texas A&M University and attends St. Mary’s High School in Fredericksburg.

Three Teens Die In Floresville Crash After Car Off Road
Three youths died and two were injured when their car veered off U. S. 181 eight miles north of Floresville in misting rain. Victims were Larry Joe Hall 18 Derwin Ullmann 18 and Donald Polasek 19 all of Floresville. Injured Randy Lynn Gee 17 and Jeffrey Wayne Clark 16, also of Floresville. Clark released from Memorial Hospital Sunday. Funeral services held at Sacred Heart Church Floresville with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
