Floresville Baptist Church Sets Revival March 31 to April 7

Floresville Baptist Church announces revival services from March 31 through April 7 with daily 10:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. programs. Dr. A. D. Norris of District Six Baptist Convention in San Antonio will preach, and Ed Wiggins of Kerrville will direct music. The revival features Sunday School at night, led by Pastor Joe Webb, with services held at First Baptist Floresville.

Karnes County Salary Bill Not Extending to Karnes

A bill by Representative Jerry Butler would grant a up to ten thousand pay boost for some county officials but only applies to Atascosa County. Karnes County officials already set salaries by the Commissioner's Court and are not receiving the maximum. they earn at least one thousand dollars below the allowed by law while major office salaries are five thousand seven hundred forty eight dollars annually, though six thousand seven hundred fifty is permitted. The court will not consider raises without balancing the budget or raising taxes. This notice references a Karnes City citation and a corrected Karnes City story from last week.

Civil Defense Class In Stockdale Spanning April Dates

The Texas Education Agency will hold a Civil Defense Class in Stockdale on April 22 through 25. Classes will be held three hours a day, covering core civil defense procedures for community readiness and safety planning.

Peanut Association Head Speaks At Pleasanton Lunch

Pleasanton Lions Club held its weekly luncheon at Mac's Cafe with about 25 members and five visitors. President Frank Repka presided as Lion Cecil Bynum led a program highlighting the peanut industry in Atascosa Wilson and nearby counties. Bynum serves as a director of the Southwestern Peanut Growers.

Foresville Dedicates 340000 Housing Units in 1953 Event

City officials and builders unveiled a three unit and office housing project on Highway 97 in a March 23 1953 dedication. L McDowell Housing Committee chairman presided as ministers John J Gerbermann Daniel Hennessy and Jess Mothersbauhe participated. Alderman E A Flieller and city clerk Sam Pare represented the council and spoke briefly. Dave Martin of Jaffe Construction was introduced.

Floresville Supper Meeting Promotes Milk Co operatives Progress

More than 700 Floresville residents attended a supper and meeting at Wright's on March 21 sponsored by the Milk Producers Association of San Antonio. Speakers Donaho and Hundley outlined vast cooperative work, Army contracts, and increased dairy sales profits for the Floresville area, noting a 16 cent cwt rise in February and a $28,757.45 take-home pay increase for San Antonio milkshed farmers.

Floresville awards auditorium contract to Gene Treiber Co

Floresville High School will gain a new 840 seat auditorium. Gene Treiber Construction Co of San Antonio won the bid at 117587 dollars. Construction starts immediately with a completion date of October 15. Architects are Harvey P. Smith and Associates. The building will be steel and tile and located behind the high school on U.S. Highway 181.

La Vernia FFA FHA Banquet Honors Members and Winners

About 200 attended the La Vernia FFA FHA annual banquet at the chamber park exhibits building. Awards were presented to members including Miss Perez as outstanding FHA member, and Carl Richter with several Star Greenhand and Star Farmer honors. Honorary farmer degrees were given to Melvin Witte and Henry Schievelbein. Richter noted community support for the livestock show and entries.

New Rule 42 Implemented June 1 on Oil Leases Tanks

The Railroad Commission of Texas announced Rule 42 will take effect June 1. The rule requires identification by posted signs for oil leases tanks and wells and prohibits gatherers transporters or handlers from removing crude oil from unmarked properties.

Floresville and nearby towns including Poth Stockdale and La Vernia hold city elections Tuesday April 2 with polls from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Floresville lists six mayor city treasurer clerk and aldermen candidates none with opposition. Poth election also April 2 features aldermen votes with two seats open and no opposition.

Floresville FFA Judging Teams Shine at SWTSC Meet

Floresville FFA Judging Team attended the SWTSC Invitational Judging Contest in San Marcos on March 23. Dairy Cattle placed fifth with Dean Koenning Thomas Reed and Terry Mills. Dairy Products placed with Johnny Svoboda Tommy Chilek Joe Bob Pavliska and Marvin Roemer. Poultry took third with Frank Risley Gene Witten and Jimmy Polasek. Livestock placed with Bobby King Gary Mayes Alex Lopez and alternates David Pfeil Jim Bienek.

Historical Unit Organized At La Vernia

The La Vernia community in Wilson County formed a historical society with Mrs. Joe Shrieber as chairperson. Oscar Linne has donated a mercantile building for use as a museum, with a fundraising drive planned to renovate and display artifacts. Items will be no younger than 80 years.
