Trustees across the county urge declaring a holiday for the event with Hon Will H Mayes as the orator. A grand educational rally is planned with a fine program and a crowd expected to break records.
Wilson County urges all residents to attend a large educational rally on Friday March 31 at the opera house. County Superintendent E Swift asked trustees and teachers to distribute notices and pupils to bring home cooked baskets for noon dinners on the school campus.
Floresville Chapter No. 160 R A M plans a public event at the opera house beginning at 8 o'clock with Past Grand Master Jewel P Lightfoot of Austin delivering an address. Neigh chapters invited. Entertainment and decoration committees named. Invocation by Rev W N Carl. Music by local performers. Presentation of oil portrait of Past Grand High Priest Scott.
Prominent Floresville Presbyterian pastor Dr. W. L. Lawrance, in his eighties, died suddenly of heart failure at his Floresville home. He served only months in Floresville, survived by four sons and a son-in-law in San Antonio. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church with San Antonio clergy officiating. burial planned in Dallas on Saturday.
An election will be held in every common school district of the county on Saturday April 1 1916 to elect common school district trustees and five county school trustees. Each independent district will also vote on five county school trustees. Judge E D Mayes offers election blanks to any district requesting them.
Floresville will observe next Tuesday March 28 as annual clean-up day with Mayor S V Houston and every member of the city council joining the Mothers Club. The city health officer urges citizens to do their best and make it a great day.
Mayor S V Houston urges every citizen to join March Clean Up Day in Loresville with City Council and Mothers Club coordinating. Health officials back the effort as essential. volunteers form teams, wagons, and crews to tidy yards, alleys, and business fronts, with pickups arranged by ward chairmen.
The Wilson County Farmers Union will meet with the Stockdale Local on Saturday, April 8, at 10 o'clock. All members requested to be present.
Floresville Masonic lodge held a regular session last Saturday night. W J Ellinghausen and Leo Johnson received the Master Mason's degree with Horace Kelton and Ralph H Cameron assisting. After adjournment members were hosted by officers in a social gathering with refreshments and cigars.
Johnson and Moore Garage states no accounts will be carried beyond 30 days. The policy applies to all customers with no exceptions, insisting payment is due at the end of the 30 day period and warning to avoid being turned away.
G A Monkhouse of Floresville shipped eight car loads of good grass steers from Path to the Fort Worth market last Friday. Grass steers are scarce and buyers needed to see the lot before belief. He left for the Cattlemen's Convention before returns, but witnesses agreed the lot brought a good price.
Conoly Moore, 13, son of M. C. Moore of Johnson and Moore Garage, was badly injured when a gas tank exploded in the shop last Saturday morning. The tank, after being drained and washed, blew up, striking him on the head and causing a deep gash. He received prompt medical attention and is healing.
H B Stedham moved his furniture and undertaking business this week from the building next to John Griffith G to the Rhode building in front of the courthouse, beside Rake Eschenburg's store. The move places him in a new, larger location serving the area.
Sheriff W. L. Wright tells the Chronicle Journal that many residents complain about the stock law. He pledges enforcement to the letter and says residents must elect to repeal the law in their precincts if they oppose it, noting a daily 25 cent charge for animal care.
Mrs Love Allen announces the opening of a millinery business tomorrow Saturday March 25 in the old drug store building. A new stock of spring hats and notions will be displayed at moderate prices with inviting cordiality and a warm welcome to all ladies of Path Section.
The Baptist Church announces services for Sunday March 26 1916 with morning and evening sermons. Activities include Sunday School at 9 45 a m Sunbeam Band at 2 30 p m Ladies Aid at 3 30 p m and prayer meeting Wednesdays at 7 30 p m with S A Normal meeting after.
A three act comedy titled All A Mistake will be presented at the opera house next Thursday night March 30 by the Eastern Star Chapter. Proceeds aid the chapter’s charitable work.
