Floresville senior Joan McCloskey tops athletic honors, elected Football Sweetheart for 1969. She set a 57 point district game scoring record against Pleasanton Hawks, earned All District forward in basketball, and made All Tournament at Jourdanton Poteet and Pleasanton. She tallied 876 season points, excels in tennis, and is active in school activities. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs Bruce McCloskey of Floresville Route 3.

Dates Set For Peanut Festival September 27-28

President Hudell Wright announced in the Chronicle Journal that the 1963 Floresville Peanut Festival will be held Friday and Saturday September 27 and 28. The date was chosen to fit school and football schedules, with plans for new features and an invitation to Governor John Connally to officially open the festival.

Floresville Housing Units to Be Dedicated Tomorrow

Floresville Housing Authority invites the public to a Saturday open house at 3:00 pm at Standish Street offices to inspect 30 row rent housing units costing over a third of a million dollars. Units will house 30 families with 1 to 4 bedrooms and rents around $20 to $50 monthly, including heating, stove, and electric refrigerator. The dedication follows completion and applications will be taken for remaining units.

March 22 marks the final day for feed grain sign-up with 1459 farms eligible in the county. Figures show 14,766 acres enrolled including 2915 acres of corn and other grains, with county turnout expected to influence program participation and timing.

Connally vows to curb beef imports at Texas cattlemen meeting

Governor John Connally urged a halt to beef imports during the 85th Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association convention at the Gunter Hotel, noting imports rose from 2 to 9 percent.
