Hill reports $33,833.86 in delinquent taxes collected since January 1 with payments totaling $23,915.71 from March 1 to 20. Many taxpayers took advantage of a penalty waiver. A record single day collection was set in the collector's office last Friday, and the county remains in good shape.
A Wilson county report shows tax collections near normal with gains over last year and a March delinquent tax push yielding about 33 833 86 in state county school and road taxes. March 31 is the deadline to obtain the 1935 automobile license, with motorists urged to bring last year receipts. President J O Loftin of A I College Kingsville visited the Chronicle Journal office after a Austin trip, succeeding the late E W Seale and serving as past president of the State Teachers Association.
County Agent A. A. Storey Jr. this week received from the U S Government 4052 00 representing surplus tickets surrendered to the National Cotton Pool. Cards have been mailed for issuing the money to those entitled to receive it. About 160 producers are represented by this payment.
The Texas House heard a call for increased state aid to public schools as lawmakers discussed budget priorities and educational funding in a session noting rising costs and student needs.
Leon Ewing formerly of Lamesa buys the J. Chamberlain home in East Heights Floresville with a five acre tract and improvements. The Ewing family plans to move next week after years in San Antonio and Galveston where Ewing worked with H Kempner and Co. We welcome these good people back to Floresville.
Stockdale wins the Wilson County Tennis Meet at Denhawken School with three firsts and one second in four events. Dilworth Ranch claims second, with top finishes in boys and girls events, including singles wins by Esther Bohmann and Brad Oxford of Floresville, while Stockdale pairs prevail in girls doubles.
Robert W. Murray marks his 97th birthday with a San Antonio party attended by many guests Tuesday. Local residents and veterans joined the milestone celebration honoring Murray’s long life and service.
Robert W. Murray, Hood’s Texas brigade survivor and Civil War veteran, marks his 687th birthday with family gathering in San Antonio. A Hanover, Pennsylvania native who settled near LaVernia, he lost a leg at the Wilderness and once carried a bullet souvenir from Richmond. Murray, now with an artificial leg, lives a quiet postwar life after working as a shoemaker.
Herbert Teltschik of Houston was elected leader of the John Reagan High School band in Texas. The 50 piece group is one of the state’s best high school bands. He is 16, son of Dr and Mrs Frank Teltschik, with a family history of musicians including the Teltschik Orchestra. Floresville friends congratulate him.
George Boothe of Stockdale was badly hurt in a Sunday night car collision on the Floresville Stockdale Highway near the Talley place. He was returning home when his vehicle struck a dark parked car headed toward Floresville. The other driver was identified as W. D. Grit.
Five Texas debaters depart for Lawrence Kansas to join the annual Missouri Valley contests scheduled March 21 to 23. The meet attracts thirteen colleges competing across the league in a series of debates and panel events.
Emmett Whitsett of Floresville Bill Hall of Temple Simon Frank Leonard Frank and Jesse Villarreal of San Antonio will travel to Lawrence Kansas for the Missouri Valley Debate League Tournament and Oratorical Contest at the University of Kansas. The program runs March 21 to 23 with debates extemporaneous speaking and an oratorical contest.

Miss Cecelia Moore advisory nurse from Austin will speak at Stockdale High School auditorium Thursday evening as part of the Annual Health Program. The Wilson County School Meet opens today in Floresville with twenty five eligible schools and contests. Floresville hosts provide meals while promising enthusiastic community support.
Corpus Christi gears up for the second annual South Texas Agricultural and Industrial Exposition starting Friday March 29. The parade will be led by the Corpus Christi Lions Club with hopes of surpassing prior crowds. Exhibits will span dog shows poultry and a nine episode historical pageant while a baby show and horse show promise wide appeal.
