County Agricultural Conservation Association reports 1947 activities by Wilson County farmers. Practices include terraces on 4429 acres, drainage ditches, earthen dams, wells, and land clearing. An estimated 1500 to 1600 farmers did not participate. $48,000 allocated for 1948 aid to continue soil and water conservation, with government cost sharing.

In Floresville sponsored meet at Poth gym last Saturday March 13 seven towns competed including Smiley Kenedy Sutherland Springs La Vernia Stockdale Karnes City and Floresville. Kenedy swept Smiley to reach the finals where Floresville fell 15 12 15 1. Smiley won senior consolation while Poth clinched junior cup after a tight run through Stockdale Floresville and Kenedy.

R L Herrington Dies After Long Illness Funeral Here Monday
R L Herrington prominent Floresville business man died at his San Antonio home Sunday March 14 1948 after months of illness. Burial in Floresville Cemetery followed funeral services at the Methodist Church led by Rev Theodore Leonard and Rev A E Loudon. Herrington born November 24 1875 in Augusta Georgia moved to Floresville 1902 married Armor Jo Wilder, worked with E W Herrington Capers Herrington and R C Teas in various businesses. He served as Floresville city treasurer and on church and Masonic boards before moving to San Antonio in 1930 where he lived until his death.

Dr Hugh S Tullos a prominent San Antonio physician and surgeon died in that city after a year long illness. His funeral Wednesday in Harlandale and Floresville drew hundreds as ministers spoke of his unselfish life and service to suffering humanity. He was born in Floresville 1898 trained at Vanderbilt and married Roberta Thomas. He practiced in West Texas before moving to San Antonio where he built a large medical practice.

Removed one who gave great promise of a long and useful career. At death he was 49 years 4 months 9 days old. He is survived by widow Roberta Lb.
