A San Antonio Mobile Blood Unit will be at Memorial Hospital in Floresville on Tuesday March 30 from 4 00 to 8 00 p m A special withdrawal is needed for three persons from Wilson County and residents are urged to donate blood to keep Floresville and Wilson County in the eligibility class We NEED YOUR BLOOD!
Supt Jerome J Rohan has informed this newspaper of his resignation as Supt of Schools at Poth Texas effective June 30 1971 and his acceptance of a similar post in Kenedy Texas. He came to Poth July 1 1966 and previously was Supt at La Vernia for nine years.
The Poth Elementary School calendar notes a teacher in service on April 2 with students off, Easter holidays from April 9 to 12, school resumes April 13, and the last day of school on May 27. The May 27 awards and presentations occur in the gym at 9:00 a.m.
Parents who did not pre register their children for 1971 72 are urged to do so next week in the principal's office. Registration hours are 8 00 to 10 00 12 30 1 30 2 30 3 30.
Miss Jill Harding is named Wilson County Home Demonstration Agent starting Monday March 15. She previously served as Extension Assistant in Bastrop County and earned a Home Economics degree from Abilene Christian College in December 1970. A Rising Star, Texas native, she is the daughter of Mr and Mrs E B Harding. Her duties focus on 4 H Club youths and Home Demonstration Clubs in Wilson County.
Floresville High and Junior High bands competed at McCollum High School in San Antonio on February 20. The event featured numerous first and second division solo and ensemble performances led by Band Director Dan Frels, with named students excelling in bassoon, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, piano, oboe, and various ensemble categories.
The Texas Red Angus sale held in Astrohall Sale Arena Houston February 27, 1971 drew breeders from Spokane to Pensacola. The event grossed 36,378 dollars for 36 lots with 18 females at 900 dollars and 18 bulls at 1,121 dollars, averaging 1,010.50 per lot. Seven states received cattle, top female Parma Susan AWM bred by Marden Red Angus Farm and top bull Flint's Rebel 145 from McDonald Red Angus Ranch. The sale saw 22 buyers and strong demand for performance bulls for purebred and crossbreeding programs, auctioneered by Gayle Ingram and Harold R. Henry.
Wilson County Sheriff's Dept. investigated a break-in at Wright's Cafe early Sunday. Nightwatchman saw a speeding car leave around 4:00 a.m. with lights out. car vanished. Two steel stop signs stolen, placed on railroad tracks near Plum Street. one post embedded in a freight train en route to San Antonio. Railroad detectives are investigating, led by Chief Deputy Sheriff Rudy Rodriguez.
