An estimated 277,068.00 will be offered to Wilson County farmers and ranchmen by the AAA in 1940 for compliance with the program and soil building and range improvement. Chairman L. Orts explained the allocations: cotton parity payments 59,415. cotton agricultural payments 61,332. peanut payments 10,080. vegetable payments 12,559. general crop payments 69,784. maximum soil building 47,549. maximum range improvement 16,344. Additional funds may raise small payments. eligibility requires planting within allotments and no offsetting by overplanting on other farms.

M S Teague, a well known farmer from the Marcelona community, sustained a painful leg injury when a tractor ran over his leg on his farm Thursday afternoon of last week. No bones were broken, but he was laid up for several days and is expected to recover without further trouble.

Memorial service observed by Floresville Eastern Star Chapter on Monday evening March 11 honored departed Grand Chapter Sub-Ordinate and Home Chapters. A cross of 24 women with lit candles faced East for Grand Chapter rest, then North for Sub-Ordinate, honoring Mr. Ed Franklin. The Cross faced South for the tribute to Franklin, followed by prayers and songs, with a large crowd in attendance.

Wilson County residents approve a soil conservation district by a substantial majority. Mrs. Elizabeth Dillon heads the Floresville Homemaking Department and attended the Alamo District meeting in San Antonio with student Miss Garnerbel Black. In Wilson County a 792 to 238 vote favors establishing a Soil and Water Conservation District to be named Wilson County District if granted.
