Burglars robbed Mores Drug Store early Monday morning stealing about $500 in cash and checks along with valuable watches from stock. Authorities say evidence points to professional burglars and are reviewing security footage and possible leads.
Authorities report a major Floresville pharmacy heist occurred between Monday morning and dawn. Suspects used gloves to avoid fingerprints and forced the safe with a hammer or similar tool. No suspects seen, nightwatchman observed no activity. County leaders seek a Friday holiday for the county meet in Floresville to boost school turnout and guard against future thefts.
Carroll College Choral Club from San Antonio presented a sacred and secular program at Floresville Baptist Church last Sunday morning. The ensemble directed by Prof Koezell impressed a large Methodist congregation, with solo numbers a reading, and a talk by Mrs Helen R Carroll about the college and its progress. A free will offering benefited the college.
Floresville shipped five car loads of spinach since mid last week. Two cars last week were shipped by V Lichnovsky and John J Schroeder. This week three cars were loaded by Ci cero Harper of Sunnyside and V Lichnovsky. Wells, chamber of commerce secretary, assisted in cutting loading and shipment. All five cars went to eastern markets.
Bids will be opened March 19 on multiple Karnes County highway sections. Advertisements appear in the office of the division engineer. Work covers grading and drainage from Karnes City to Ecleto creek over 9.204 miles, 15.02 miles to Wilson county line on Hwy 112, from DeWitt county line to the San Antonio river, and 7.222 miles from the river to Kenedy on Hwy 72.
The Floresville Chamber of Commerce received 100 bushels of certified sweet potato seed ordered through a committee. The seed arrived by express Tuesday night from a Tyler grower and will be bedded out for curing before slips are sold to farmers and others at a cost. County Agent Beck and C. Wells of the Chamber guide the program.
An important poultry clinic will be held this Friday afternoon at the Southwest National Egg-Laying Con test in San Antonio, with present emphasis on warming demonstration and blackhead in turkeys. Dr A A Lucas of Vermidine Company, Fort Worth, will supervise the demonstration and lecture. Wilson county poultrymen are urged to attend.
L J Carson of San Antonio bought the old Will Pass place an about 150 acres six miles north of town on the Sutherland Springs road formerly owned by the First National Bank. He plans to place a tenant immediately and make improvements including planting a large peanut acreage this year. Diversification of Wilson county land attracted the investment.

The Chronicle Journal reports via telegram that L P Mayes of Floresville has been pledged to the Zeta Chapter of the Phi Chi Medical fraternity. Mayes, son of Judge and Mrs E D Mayes, is in his first year at the Medical College of the State University after completing pre medical studies at the State University in Austin last year.
The Floresville city council had the large water tower on the school campus thoroughly cleaned and scraped by JL Ho Boldt of San Antonio. A new flush valve was installed and the tank treated with lime to ensure a pure artesian water supply for the coming hot months. Floresville now boasts one of the best water supplies among small Texas towns.
Karnes City a high school athlete Robert Person suffered a broken leg while hurdling at the track field Tuesday afternoon He is a pole vaulter and versatile athlete whose absence will be keenly felt at the Interscholastic League meet in Kenedy on March 22 and 23
Wilson County is drawing buyers from across the state as Jersey cattle sales and dairy publicity grow. A carload of good grade cows including 21 head and a registered bull was bought by Hal Peterson of American Creamery Co at Kerrville, aided by Elbert W. Franklin. Peterson plans another visit for more Jerseys. Floresville data show about 50,000 dollars of Jersey cattle shipped from Wilson County in the past two years.
Floresville relatives report Mr Bob Irvin died at his Wallis home after several days pneumonia. Funeral planned in Wallis today with details pending. Deceased was brother in law of Meyers S V and J C Houston and Mesdames Idezie Ballard and FE D A Mayes. J C Houston Mesdames Mayes Ballard and John H Mayes left to attend with others from Wilson county towns. Chronicle Journal extends sympathy to the family.
Under Floresville Parent-Teachers Association auspices the Karnes County High School Orchestra of thirty pieces from Runge Kenedy and Karnes City high schools presented a fine program in the high school auditorium last Friday. Directed by Wendell F. Lienhard, the group showed balanced numbers, with standout solos by Maria Lee Turner Duke Erna Karbach and Elmo Lyons. Accompanists Miss Sullivan and Robbins earned praise for their skill.
Karnes City and Floresville High Schools held a practice track and field meet in Karnes City last Friday with Floresville totaling 75.5 points to Karnes City 72.5. Karnes City won boys tennis singles and doubles while Floresville took girls doubles. Overall, Karnes City 92.5 points to Floresville 85.5. Local officials praised the host community as heavy rains perked regional optimism for planting and farming across Wilson and surrounding counties.
