Sheriff Tackitt and Newman donate to Easter Seals telethon
The Wilson County Sheriff's Department presented a check for 3908 dollars to the Easter Seal Telethon on KENS-TV March 3 1996. Proceeds were raised at the Wilson County Shoot-out sponsored by Sheriff Tackitt and the Wilson County Sheriff's Department and donated to Easter Seals.

Hoop Challenge USA set at Floresville High School
Floresville High School hosts Hoop Challenge USA a nationwide youth basketball shooting contest for ages 8 to 14. Sixth Annual Tiger Jaguar Relays Set For Saturday
The sixth annual Tiger Jaguar Relays at Eschenburg Stadium Saturday March 16 begins at 9 00 a m with girls 3200 meter run and preliminaries while boys field events start at the same time. At noon the boys 3200 finals and preliminaries occur as the girls stage field events. Finals around 2 30 p m. Twelve South Texas schools compete with Clemens defending both titles. Junior varsity includes ten boys teams and nine girls teams. Floresville hosts a Friday meet to start the action with booster concessions both days. A Wilson County Public Library Friends meeting is set for March 14 at 4 p m to elect officers.

Teen held in slaying remains in juvenile facility
Margaret Ward sixteen who is charged with aggravated assault in the slaying of her mother Janet Ward twenty seven was ordered to stay in a juvenile detention facility for at least ten more days. Her father Tom Ward testified she is in counseling and struggling in school. The case features a pending move to delinquent conduct murder and potential adult trial. Ward is held in Victoria with hearings set for March 21 and another a week later.

A Floresville area motorcycle driver Michael Spilka failed to stop at a stop sign on Cherry Ridge. His collision with Richard Turner’s truck caused Spilka to be thrown. Turner uninjured. Spilka transported to BAMC. charges filed for disregard stop sign and no liability insurance.
