600 Yorktown Acres Will Grow Peanuts
In Yorktown Texas C W Ehlers announces over 600 acres will be planted in peanuts next season. A March 9 meeting at the Chamber of Commerce hall will order seed discuss planting and marketing methods. Floresville F F A Chapter members sold their project calves after the first annual Southwest Texas Boys Fat Stock Show in San Antonio February 26 to 28. Purchasers listed from Union Stock Yards include Merrill Connally selling one calf to W O W Hospital at 780 pounds for 6.60 per hundredweight, Walton Pfeil selling two calves to Swift & Co and Dumble Packing Co totaling 815 and 550 pounds at the given prices, and Bill Yeager selling two calves to Alex ter Graves at 870 pounds for 7.0 per hundredweight.

John Bednarz, a well known farmer living between Floresville and Path, announces his candidacy for county commissioner of precinct No. 2. A longtime public servant, he has chaired Path precinct, served as Waldheim school trustee, directed Floresville Rural Telephone, and sat on the Wilson County Agricultural Council. He also operated Bednarz and mek gin near Poth from 1917 to 1924 and recently visited Washington with the Farmers' Special. Texas Cotton Acreage Drops 40 Percent Across Five Years
Washington March 6 Department of Commerce reports Texas harvested cotton fell over 40 percent from 1929 to 1934. In 1934 72.7 percent of farms grew cotton versus 49.6 percent in 1929, acres dropped from 16,813,568 to 10,015,875, farms reporting cotton from 895,106 to 64,249 though yield remained 0.23 bale per acre. Overall average acres per farm fell from 42.6 to 27.5.

The University of Texas team led by Jerry McAfee of Port Arthur and Emmett Whitsett of Floresville debated University of Kansas representatives on WOAI San Antonio radio last Tuesday afternoon. The topic was the federal government should control cotton production. The Floresville audience l heard a clear, strong program with no decision. Whitsett, son of E L Whitsett, was Floresville High honor student, class of ’32, now a Texas law student and three year debating squad member.

Mrs Bundrick Funeral Held in Stockdale
Mrs D F Bundrick died at her home near Floresville after long illness. Funeral services were held at Stockdale cemetery at 10 o'clock Friday conducted by Rev Walter McKinnie of the Stockdale Methodist Church. She was 73, a longtime Wilson county resident and former Martha Melvina Baird. A devoted mother with wide circle of friends.

Six Die in Ingleside Humble Refinery Blast
Corpus Christi reports six men killed by a gasoline vapor explosion at the Humble refinery in Ingleside. S. W. Clirie and J. L. Franklin died today, joining Cleburne H. Boring, R. J. Tackett, L. S. Wilson, and William Womack who perished yesterday. The blast occurred inside a 30,000 barrel tank and the cause remained undetermined.

Postmaster Lee McDaniel has the new Texas Centennial 3 cent stamps on sale at the Floresville post office since mid last week. They were issued after Gonzales opening sale and feature a purple background with the Alamo, General Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. The stamp bears United States Postage Texas Centennial 1836 1986 and is urged for all Texan mail to invite the outside world to the state's birthday celebration.
