Poth Band Members Capture 31 Medals in Area VI Contest
At the Region VI UIS Solo and Ensemble Contest in San Antonio on March 6, Poth High and Junior High bands earned 31 First Division medals, the most in a single event in the program’s history. Awards covered brass, woodwind, percussion, and multiple quartets led by Band Director Ted C. Kelly and judges from Del Mar College, Falfurrias, and Killeen High School.

Local Artist Creates Cement Forms For Kids Fun
Peter Ximenez a California carpenter turned cement artist crafts four foot plus statues including a dinosaur rooster bear and more. He donates these concrete figures to children's institutions and has exhibited on TV and at galleries. Ximenez plans larger sculpture work and seeks to expand his playful public art while continuing charitable efforts.

Janice Linne Wins Wilson County Essay Contest First
Janice Linne of La Vernia High School secured first place in the 1965 Essay Contest on Conservation sponsored by the Wilson County Soil Conservation District. District prizes were awarded to students from La Vernia Stockdale Poth Floresville and other area schools with ribbons and cash gifts ranging from 12.50 to 3.00. The event drew about 200 essays written on Conservation Our Best Insurance, and winning essays advance to Area III and the state contest with results due in May.

Floresville Lions Celebrate 20th Anniversary Program
Floresville Lions Club observed its 20th anniversary on Thursday March 14 1965 with 40 members and two guests including District 2A2 Governor T L Bourland and E J Hierholzer. President George Winyard and Secretary Edward Reed led the session as Bourland presented awards to long time members, charter members, and officers. The event highlighted the club's community service such as sponsoring Boy Scouts, supplying glasses, aiding March of Dimes, and other programs over two decades.

La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Cibolo Water shed Committee reports progress against industrial waste pollution on Cibolo Creek. County judges of Wilson Karnes and Guadalupe counties sent letters to state and national legislators. Connally and Congressman John Young helped lead cleanup efforts, marking first real progress in the watershed.

The La Vernia Eight Annual Livestock and Poultry Show drew a large crowd as Koepp Chevrolet bought the Grand Champion Steer at 62 cents per pound, and multiple buyers including The State Bank of La Vernia, Texaco Distributor, and local merchants purchased grand and reserve champions across steer, lamb, barrow, and pen categories. La Vernia 4-H wins grand champion lamb at junior show
La Vernia 4-H Club led by Nelson Waltisberger captured the grand champion lamb at the La Vernia Junior Livestock and Poultry Show held March 6 at the Chamber of Commerce Park. Clyde Dunn Jr. earned reserve champion with an 84 pound lamb. Twenty-two lambs were shown across lightweight and heavyweight classes with multiple top placings for 4-H members including Emily Hartmann and Randall Goeth among others.
