Floresville high school hosted KENS TV 5 News team for a charity game at Zane Lawdon Gym on Feb 24, raising funds for a playground fence. Floresville won 34 to 33 in a crowded, entertaining evening featuring autographs, officials, cheerleaders, nurses, and halftime entertainment by Charlene Albert.
The Miss Wilson County Area Pageant and Little Mr and Miss Pageants will be held on April 29 at Floresville venues. Tea at 1 30 p.m. Contestants meet judges after interviews. Pageant begins 7 00 p.m. Little contestants lineup at 5 30 p.m. Entries due April 1 with name age address and phone. contact Glenda Goodall or Valerie Hicks.
The Falls City Youth Fair Association invites attendees to the Fourteenth Annual Youth Fair on March 11 with a full schedule of judging morning sessions for swine foods garments and crafts lambs steers and beef cattle. A barbecue lunch and baked goods display plus a style show and awards presentation are planned, followed by a 7:30 p.m. auction at the County Livestock Exchange.
The Grand Champion Steer from the San Antonio Livestock Show will be on display at Poth Plaza near City Hall on Saturday March 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schlitz Beer bought seven Grand Champions at the San Antonio Show and donated them to 4 H clubs and FFA chapters in Atascosa Bexar and Wilson Counties.
Wilson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society met at the Wilson County Library on February 27 to plan a county wide Bike-A-Thon. Coach Lary Pullini and his wife Cindy will lead the event set for Sunday April 9 at 1 00 PM. Prizes include most miles ridden most money raised oldest contestant and youngest contestant with posters to be released as details spread.
Margaret Shelton notes Wilson County 4H youth excel at the District Food Show of February 18 in Cuero. Blue awards went to Wanda Cordes for Marinated Vege Table Salad, Melissa Janek for Cranberry Salad, and Donna Condes for Tangy Yellow Squash. Red awards to Jeffery Rutledge for Creamy Orange Milk Shake, Priscilla Rutledge for Shrimp Tacos, and Karen Koether for Blueberry Cream Cheese Squares. Maggie May earned a white award for Enchilada Casserole. silver and other honors cited for Dessert and Main Dish divisions, with presentations by State Senator William N. Patman.
The public is invited to a Saturday morning coffee at Vic's Taco House from 9 30 to 11 00 to meet and greet Congressman Bob Krueger in a local event aimed at constituents.
The Wilson County Junior Pageant will be held during the month of November at the intermediate school.
The 38th District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Texas Bro T A Masterson will visit Floresville Lodge 515 on March 14 at 7 30 p m at the Floresville Masonic Temple. All Master Masons of Floresville Lodge 515 are urged to attend this important meeting.
The deadline to file school transfers is May 1, 1978. Children in the district other than Floresqlle must arrange transfer commitments. Transfers require parent signatures and must be completed at the Administrative Office at 1103 Pee Street during school hours.
Mrs Juanita Harper will be the guest speaker at Marcelina Baptist Church Saturday night March 11 at 7 00 PM with emphasis on the Annie Armstrong season offering for Home Missions Her life spans Foreign Mission work in Africa with her late husband Wimpie Harper until his death during a swimming accident After returning home she joined Corpus Christi Baptist Association as assistant to Rev W H Colsen and later directed Christian Ministries The church invites all area residents to join for spiritual blessings from this dynamic speaker
Floresville High School hosts an annual blood drive March 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wiley Seale Auditorium. South Texas Regional Blood Bank staff under Jim Thomas will collect donations with Memorial Hospital Junior Volunteers assisting. Donors receive refreshments after screening including medical history, vitals, and iron level checks.
Louis B Engelke of San Antonio grand president of the Order of the Sons of Hermann in Texas will be the special guest at a tamale supper Sunday March 12 hosted by Poth Brother Lodge No 272 and Poth Sister Lodge No 146. The event starts at 3 30 p m with Engelke delivering a brief address about the annual March menu.
